LAKE CHARLES, La. – McNeese State scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the first inning and picked up a 6-1 win over ULM Wednesday night at Cowgirl Diamond.

Jayden Mount opened the top of the first inning with a single to left and later scored on
Andie Edwards' sacrifice fly for the 1-0 lead.
McNeese took advantage of a Warhawk error in the bottom of the first inning. Leadoff batter Cori McCrary reached on an error by Mount to open the inning for the Cowgirls. Starting pitcher
Gianni Hulett nearly worked out of trouble, recording two outs before Kaylee Lopez hit an RBI single to score McCrary to tie the game at 1. Haylee Brinlee followed with a 2-run home run to give McNeese a 3-1 advantage.
The score remained the same until the sixth inning. With two outs in the inning, McCrary belted a 3-run home run to extend the Cowgirl lead to 6-1.
Edwards had two of ULM's five hits and the Warhawks' only RBI. Lopez had three hits for the Cowgirls while McCrary had two hits.
Hulett (4-7) suffered the loss for ULM, giving up three unearned runs on six hits with one walk and no strikeouts.
Amber Coons pitched the final four innings, giving up three runs on three hits with one walk and four strikeouts.
Jenna Edwards (7-1) picked up the win for McNeese, throwing four innings while giving up a run on two hits with one walk and no strikeouts.
The Warhawks host senior weekend against Georgia State with first pitch at noon and 2 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday at the ULM Softball Complex.
