NEW ORLEANS – ULM running back
Ahmad Hardy was named Sun Belt Conference Football Freshman of the Year and one of nine Warhawks that earned SBC postseason honors as the conference announced its 2024 All-SBC selections and postseason awards on Thursday (Dec. 5).
Hardy became the first ULM football player to win SBC Freshman of the Year since 2003, joining Kevin Payne as the only Warhawks to earn the honor. The running back from Monticello, Miss., also received All-Sun Belt First Team Offense accolades.
Â
Defensive lineman
Kevontay Wells collected All-Sun Belt Second Team Defense honors while defensive lineman
Billy Pullen, linebacker
Carl Glass Jr., and defensive back
Wydett Williams Jr. were recognized on the All-SBC Third Team. Rounding out the selections were honorable mention picks
Elijah Fisher,
Rylan Green,
Julian Nixon and
David Godsey Jr.
Â
Hardy was one of the most dynamic freshmen running backs in the country and led all freshman FBS halfbacks with 1,351 rushing yards. His rushing yards total was the 10
th-highest in the nation and the fourth highest of all group of five running backs. Hardy reached the 100-yard rushing mark eight times this season and the 200-yard mark twice and tallied 13 rushing touchdowns. He finished the season third all-time in ULM history for rushing yards in a single season and his 13 touchdowns tied for the second-most in a single ULM season with Frank Goodin in 2009 and Greg Robinson in 1992.
Wells was a key factor on the ULM defense and led the Warhawks with 11.0 tackles for loss and recorded three sacks and 50 total tackles. He made a season-high 2.5 tackles for loss in ULM's win over Southern Miss and made 1.0 sacks versus the Ragin' Cajuns. He also made 2.0 tackles for loss in ULM's conference-opening victory at Troy.
Â
Pullen was one of the top edge rushers in the SBC and ranked sixth in the league with 0.5 sacks per game. The Kaufman, Texas native led the Warhawks with 6.0 sacks and added 7.5 tackles for loss, 47 total tackles and five quarterback hurries. Pullen wreaked havoc in ULM's dominating 32-6 win over UAB where he tallied three tackles for loss, two sacks and a safety.
Â
Glass Jr. had a productive senior season at ULM and registered 7.3 tackles per game, which ranked 10
th in the SBC. The Monroe linebacker forced and recovered a fumble at Auburn and forced another fumble versus Jackson State. He recorded 1.5 total sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss in his final season at ULM. In total, Glass Jr. made 169 total tackles in his three-year ULM career.
Â
Williams Jr. was a key addition to the ULM defense after transferring to Monroe from Delta State. At safety, Williams Jr. led the Warhawks with 100 total tackles and three interceptions and finished the season within the top 10 on the Sun Belt leaderboard in both categories. The General Trass High School graduate became the first ULM football player to be named SBC Player of the Week after making 10 tackles, one interception and 0.5 sacks in the Warhawks' win over Jackson State.
Fisher garnered All-SBC Honorable Mention recognition for the second-straight season after making 11 starts for the Warhawks in 2024. The Allen, Texas native has made 33 career starts at guard for ULM. Green, a West Monroe, La., native, played in 11 games for ULM this season, making five receptions for 43 yards and was an impact edge blocker for the Warhawks. In his first season at ULM, Nixon brought down his first-career touchdown versus Southern Miss and made nine catches for 91 yards in 11 games. Godsey Jr. made four pass breakups and forced a pair of fumbles in his junior season at cornerback for ULM.
