BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The ULM track & field team captured a trio of first-place finishes during the first day of competition at the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Ala.

Claudine Raud-Gumiel was the top finisher in the pentathlon with a score of 3,746. Raud-Gumiel finished inside the top-10 in each event after placing first in the 60m hurdles (8.62), second in the long jump (5.71m), second in the high jump (1.65m), sixth in the 800m (2:29.82) and ninth in the shot put (9.59m).
Eunice Ilunga Mbuyi recorded a personal-best mark of 6.04m in the long jump for a first-place result. The men's distance medley relay team of
Rojs Puks,
Santana Richardson,
Reid Guirlando and
Juwan Blignaut concluded the night with a thrilling championship run of 10:01.65.
Algirdas Strelciunas reached the podium in the men's long jump with a mark of 7.40m (24-3.5) with a third-place finish.

In the prelims,
Kimone Campbell qualified for both the 1 mile (5:02.02) finals and the 800m (2:15.54).
J'Marcus Sewell (21.41) and
Imani Coleman (21.76) both qualified for the 200m finals and Sewell also earned a qualifying time in the 60m prelims with a time of 6.88.
Devin Bilbo will race in the finals in the 60m hurdles after finishing third in the prelims, crossing the finish line in 8.03. Two Warhawks qualified in the 1 mile on the men's side:
Juwan Blignaut (4:22.51) and Carlo Martinez-Jaramillo (4:25.56). 10 different Warhawks recorded personal-best or season-best results in the first day of action at the SBC Indoor Championships.

After the completion of events from day one, the women's team sits in fourth place with 23 points, 11 behind the leading school, Texas State. The men's team is in fifth place with 23.5 points. South Alabama currently leads the men's side with 47 points.

Day 2 of competition begins on Tuesday (Feb. 20) at 10 a.m. with the heptathlon.
