Women's Basketball Preview: Southern Miss

ULM starts its final homestand of the season on Thursday night versus the Golden Eagles.

TIP-OFF
• The ULM women's basketball returns to Monroe to begin its final homestand of the season this week, starting with a pivitol Sun Belt Conference matchup versus Southern Miss on Thursday (Feb. 22) at 5 p.m. inside Fant-Ewing Coliseum. The Warhawks and Golden Eagles are tied in the SBC standings with two weeks remaining in the regular season.

• With Thursday's win at South Alabama, the Warhawks have secured their first winning season since 2010-11 with 16 wins. The program won a total of 14 games in the previous three seasons. ULM's six-game conference winning streak in January was the longest in ULM history in 19 years. The Warhawks strung together the longest conference winning streak (six games) since the 2004-05 team, who won 11-straight conference games to conclude the regular season.

• Last time out, the Warhawks led for over 16 minutes of game time, but Troy grinded out an 81-77 home win on Saturday. Daisha Bradford led the way with 20 points for ULM while Sania Wells finished with 18 points and Jakayla Johnson had 16. Bradford passed a team-high five assists and pulled down six defensive rebounds and tallied one steal. Wells racked up three steals and grabbed six boards. Johnson totaled four rebounds and a pair of assists. Brianna Harris and Katlyn Manuel both registered eight points in the game.

THURSDAY'S GAME BASICS
ULM and Southern Miss will clash for the second time this season Thursday evening inside Fant-Ewing Coliseum at 5 p.m. The Warhawks won the first meeting between the two teams back in January, 70-58, in Reed Green Coliseum.  ULM's win marked the first time the Warhawks defeated Southern Miss since 2012.

Thursday's game will be broadcast on ESPN+, with Chris Harris and Mike Vining on the call. The game also will air on KMLB 105.7 FM/540 AM and the TuneIn app on the Warhawk Radio Network from Learfield with Ben Milam on the play-by-play.

Following a 2-6 start to SBC play, Southern Miss has went on a tear and has won six-straight conference games. The Golden Eagles wrapped up their home schedule last Saturday with a 68-58 win versus Texas State and have four road games remaining in the regular season.

Domonique Davis scored 29 points in her senior day performance and led her team to victory over Texas State on Saturday. The DeRidder, Louisiana native has averaged 19.7 points per game in her final season playing for the Golden Eagles.

Joye Lee-McNelis returned to Hattiesburg to lead her alma mater in 2004 and has racked up over 350 wins at the helm the program. Lee-McNelis landed her first head coaching job at Memphis and tallied 229 wins with the Tigers from 1991-2004 before returning to USM.
