MONROE, La. -- Claudine Raud-Gumiel completed the multi events season sweep by capturing the Heptathlon gold medal on Friday (May 10) at the second day of the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Brown Stadium in Monroe, La.
After winning a trio of events on day one, Raud-Gumiel wrapped up her gold-medal performance with an impressive first-place finish in the 800m with a time of 2:16.98 to give her 865 points and seal the win with a total score of 6,596 points.
Savanna Lawson finished just 14 points behind the third-place finisher and scored 5,056 points, marking a personal-best score.
Eunice Ilunga Mbuyi earned a second-place finish in the long jump with a 6.25m and finished 0.01m behind first place.
Kimone Campbell qualified for the 800m finals after registering the third-fastest time in the prelims with a 2:10.94.
Two Warhawks achieved podium finishes on the men's side on the second day of competition as
Algirdas Strelciunas recorded a leap of 7.39m for second place in the long jump.
Oscar Prieto won third place in the pole vault with a mark of 5.17m, a season best result.
Matthew Malcolm turned in a personal best time in the 400m hurdles and qualified for the finals of the event after crossing the finish line in 53.04. Two other Warhawk sprinters qualified for finals on Saturday after
Darshon Turk fired a 14.07 in the prelims of the 110m hurdles and
J'Marcus Sewell clocked a 21.33 in the 200m prelims to advance to Saturday's final.
Juwan Blignaut punched his ticket into the finals of the 800m with a 1:53.96.
As a team, the ULM women's team is tied for fourth place with James Madison at 23 points. The Ragin' Cajuns lead the pack with 57.5 points, while Arkansas State is in second place at 54 points and Texas State sits in third with 52 points.
On the men's side, the Warhawks are in eighth place after two days of competition with 22 points. South Alabama leads the way with 90 points and Arkansas State has tallied 45 points in second place. App State will begin the final day of the meet in third place with 40 points.
The Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships will conclude tomorrow (May 11) at Brown Stadium with the action beginning at noon and continuing through Saturday night in Monroe.
