MONROE, La. – Daniel Cabrera has officially been named the next head coach of the ULM indoor volleyball program after the interim tag was removed, ULM Athletic Director John Hartwell announced on Monday (July 29).
Â
"We are pleased to announce Daniel Cabrera as our new head indoor volleyball coach," Hartwell said. "Our student-athletes are very familiar with Coach Cabrera, and he will be an excellent leader for this program. With Daniel's previous head coaching experience and spending a year at ULM, we believe this combination will help advance our Warhawk indoor volleyball program. We are excited to watch this team move forward with him at the helm."
Â
Cabrera spent last season as an assistant coach on previous ULM head coach Matt Kearns' staff and was elevated as the interim head coach on July 16.
Â
"It is a privilege and an honor to be the next head indoor volleyball coach for ULM," said Cabrera. "I owe everything to God and my mother. I take pride in being a coach for others. I want to thank John Hartwell and Michael Gammon for entrusting me with coaching this team. I also would like to thank Matt Kearns for everything he has done for ULM volleyball. Our indoor volleyball student-athletes are fearless, passionate about team chemistry and want to win. I am looking forward to coaching this team."
Â
Before ULM, Cabrera was at the helm of both the men's and women's volleyball teams at Olivet Nazarene in Illinois for three seasons. The Chicago native was a standout volleyball student-athlete at Hannibal LaGrange University in Missouri.
Â
"Monroe has been one of the best places I have lived and a great community to raise a family," Cabrera said. "Monroe's southern charm and hospitality along with my Chicago work ethic will be instilled in Warhawk Volleyball."
Â
Cabrera will make his ULM head coaching debut on Aug. 30 when the Warhawks take on Alabama State at the Alabama State Invitational in Montgomery. The Warhawks' home opener is set for Sept. 27 versus Southern Miss.
