Soccer Preview: Warhawks Finish Homestand Versus Cowgirls

ULM Soccer is looking to extend their undefeated streak in their final game of August.

KICKOFF –

The ULM soccer team will be playing at Brown Stadium for the third straight match in a three-game homestand, taking on former conference opponent McNeese on Thursday at noon in Monroe. The Warhawks are looking to continue their winning streak, as they beat the Nicholls State Colonels 4-0 on Sunday afternoon.

SERIES HISTORY –

ULM and McNeese will meet on the pitch for the first time since 2018. Most recently, the Warhawks went to overtime with the Cowgirls, losing 1-2 in Lake Charles. The first meeting was a 2-1 Warhawk win in Monroe on Sept. 6, 2000. The Warhawks are looking to end their two-game losing streak vs. McNeese, having not beat the Cowgirls since 2016 in Lake Charles. ULM has also not won against McNeese in Monroe since 2004.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT –

McNeese is looking to break a streak of their own when they hit the road for Monroe on Thursday afternoon. The Cowgirls lost to the Ragin' Cajuns to open the season, then went on to capture their lone win of the season so far, a 2-1 success vs. Jackson State. McNeese then hit the road, taking a pair of losses to Oral Roberts and Tulsa. The Colonels are currently sixth in the Southland conference standings. McNeese's Jackie Kelly, Kaile Kukaua and Morgan Schooley also claimed Southland Preseason All-Conference First Team honors.

THREE IS THE MAGIC NUMBER –

The Warhawks started the preseason strong, being selected third in the Sun Belt preseason coaches poll, receiving 138 votes. This is the highest ULM Soccer has been ranked in the SBC preseason poll since joining the conference in 2006.

MAKING HISTORY –

The Warhawks have started the season strong, opening with a 4-0 record. ULM has not posted a 4-0 record to start the season since 2014, in which it finished 8-10-1. This is only the second time in program history this has happened.
