MONROE, La. – The ULM women's basketball team (8-11, 4-4) returns home for a three-game homestand, facing the South Alabama Jaguars (4-15, 0-8). Tip-off in Fant-Ewing Coliseum is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday (Jan. 30). The Warhawks are on the hunt for a another Sun Belt win, while the Jaguars are looking to break a nine-game loss streak.
SERIES HISTORY –
The Warhawks and the Jaguars will be competing for the 35th time in the series, ULM looking to continue a two-game win streak against South Alabama. The first matchup between ULM and South Alabama was on Dec. 19, 1992 in Mobile, Ala., a 74-61 Warhawk win. The Warhawks swept the series last season for the first time since 2015. The most recent matchup for the two teams was Feb. 15, 2024, when the Jaguars fell to ULM 68-60 in Mobile. The Warhawks are undefeated against South Alabama in the Bilderback era.
SCOUTING THE JAGUARS –
The Jaguars are looking to capture a win, after going on a nine-game losing streak. Most recently, South Alabama fell to Arkansas State in Mobile, 71-82. Amyria Walker leads the team in points per game (11.6), with Rachel Leggett leading in field goal percentage (.560) and steals (1.6). Since Leggett joined the starting lineup, she has averaged 13.0 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. To round out double-digit scorers, Daniela Gonzalez averages 10.2 points per game. Gonzalez leads the team in rebounds per game (6.9), assists per game (1.9) and blocks per game (0.9).
LEADING THE TEAM –
Jakayla Johnson currently leads the team in points per game (14.4), field goals made (96), assists (58) and steals (34). Johnson leads the Sun Belt in free throw percentage (.848), is sixth in points per game and seventh in field goal percentage (.412).
Sakyia White opened the season going 9-9 vs. Central Baptist (Nov. 4), dropping 18 points and leading the team in field goal percentage (.500). She then followed up with a 16-rebound performance vs. Tulane (Dec. 21) and a 14-rebound showing versus Arkansas State (Jan. 11), leading the team in rebounds per game (7.9) and fourth in the Sun Belt.
DOUBLE DOUBLE–
Laila Walker logged the team's first double-double of the season against Louisiana Christian (Nov. 11), posting 10 points and 11 rebounds. The achievement was also Walker's first career double-double. Sakyia White, Katlyn Manuel and Jakayla Johnson have also been credited with double-doubles this season. The most recent double-double achieved by a Warhawk was Walker, who recorded 12 points and 16 rebounds at Texas State (Jan. 25) for her second double-double of the season.
