MONROE, La. –The ULM women's basketball team (9-11, 5-4) remains home for the second in a three-game homestand, facing the Texas State Bobcats (9-11, 3-7). Tip-off in Fant-Ewing Coliseum is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday (Feb. 1). Saturday's game will also be ULM's Play4Kay game, in honor of Kay Yow and all women who have battled cancer. The Warhawks are on the hunt to continue their two-game Sun Belt win streak, while the Bobcats are looking to break a three-game loss streak.
SERIES HISTORY –
The Warhawks and the Bobcats will be competing for the 67th time in the series, ULM looking to complete a season sweep over Texas State. The first matchup between ULM and Texas State was on Feb. 6, 1988 in San Marcos, Texas, a 101-79 Warhawk win. The Warhawks won last season for the first time in the series since 2020, before splitting the 2024 series 1-1 with the Bobcats. The most recent matchup for the two teams was Jan. 25, 2025, when the Warhawks defeated Texas State 74-66 in San Marcos, winning on the road for the first time since 2020.
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS –
The Bobcats are looking to come back from a three-game losing streak, most recently a road loss to Southern Miss, 46-52. Jaylin Foster leads the team in points per game (10.8), blocks (8) and steals (35). The senior forward reached her 1,000th career point on January 23 against Troy. Destiny Terrell leads the team in field goal percentage (.514) and rebounds per game (6.7), looking to reach 1,000 points against the Warhawks. Texas State is looking to surpass preseason expectations, as they were selected to finish 10th in the preseason coaches poll after a 4-14 conference record last season, falling to Georgia Southern in the first round of the Sun Belt Tournament.
LEADING THE TEAM –
Jakayla Johnson scored a whopping 28 points against South Alabama (Jan. 30), shooting 10-14. She currently leads the team in points per game (15.1), three-point percentage (.350), assists (61) and steals (36). Johnson is second in the Sun Belt in free throw percentage (.836), is third in points per game and sixth in field goal percentage (.422).
Sakyia White opened the season going 9-9 vs. Central Baptist (Nov. 4), dropping 18 points and leading the team in field goal percentage (.500). She then followed up with a 16-rebound performance vs. Tulane (Dec. 21) and a 14-rebound showing versus Arkansas State (Jan. 11), leading the team in rebounds per game (7.8) and fifth in the Sun Belt.
