ULM Soccer to Face Marshall in Sun Belt Conference Tournament

ULM Soccer looks to extend a successful season through the conference tournament.

FOLEY, Ala. – The Warhawks (11-2-4, 6-0-4 SBC) heads to Foley for the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Championship tournament, taking on sixth-ranked Marshall (8-4-4, 4-2-4 SBC) at 11 a.m. on Monday (Nov. 3). After claiming the team's first-ever regular season title, ULM is ready to get going in the postseason.

REGULAR SEASON CHAMPS –

ULM claimed the Sun Belt regular season title in a 2-1 victory over the Ragin' Cajuns on Wednesday (Oct. 29), the team's first in program history. After getting to a 1-0 lead, the Cajuns tied it up in the second half. Ava Goodman then played hero, launching a 40-footer into the back of the net for the game winner. The six conference wins for ULM is the most since joining the Sun Belt, 11 wins being the most since 2004.

RACKING UP SUN BELT HONORS –

ULM Soccer picked up five all-conference selections, with Skylar Blaise receiving the honor of Player of the Year. Head coach Will Roberts was also recognized as the Sun Belt Coach of the Year. Blaise and Libby Holmes were named to the All-Sun Belt First Team, with Jen Handy named to the Second Team and Beth Strutton and Margret Edda Bjarnadottir named to the Third Team. Blaise is ULM's first Sun Belt Player of the Year, as well as Blaise's first all-conference recognition.  Roberts' honor is the second Coach of the Year award that ULM has received since joining the Sun Belt in 2006.

With five players named All-Sun Belt, ULM claims the most all-conference honors since joining the Sun Belt. The Warhawks hold the second-most players named all-conference in 2025, as Old Dominion picks up six. As Blaise and Holmes are named to the First Team, ULM also claims the most players awarded to an all-conference first team since 2005. This is each player's first All-Sun Belt selection.

POSTSEASON HISTORY –

The Warhawks will be traveling to Foley for the third-straight season. In the five trips and seven matches ULM has taken to the Sun Belt Championship tournament, they claim a 2-3-2 record. In the last trip to Foley in 2024, the Warhawks went to overtime with the top-seeded James Madison Dukes, falling in penalty kicks after a 0-0 draw in the first round.

SCOUTING THE HERD –

Marshall is currently 8-4-4 on the season, concluding conference play on a five-match unbeaten streak. Most recently, the Herd picked up a 5-0 win at home over Southern Miss to improve to 4-2-4 in league competition. Bailey Fisher leads the team with 16 points (7g, 2a) and 58 shots. Midfielder Fernanda Dantas has 11 assists on the season, leading the Sun Belt and ranked fourth nationally. In the regular season finale, Angel Fowler got hot offensively for the Herd, securing the team's first hat trick since 2021.

SERIES VS. MARSHALL –

This is the fourth meeting between the Thundering Herd and the Warhawks, the first in postseason play. The first meeting between the two teams was in 2022, a 0-0 draw at Brown Stadium. Most recently, ULM claimed a 3-2 victory at home on September 18 to remain unbeaten against Marshall.

SET PIECES –

The Warhawks have been known to capitalize off set pieces this season, with 16 of the team's 34 goals coming off set pieces. ULM also leads the Sun Belt in corner kicks and is ranked 31st nationally, averaging 6.29 per game as they look for more scoring opportunities.

TRAILBLAISER –

Skylar Blaise scored her 23rd career goal in the regular season finale against the Ragin' Cajuns, surpassing Cindy Barker (2000-03) as ULM's all-time leading scorer. The senior leads the conference in goals (11), ranking 16th in the NCAA. She has reached the record books in season goals, season points and career shots on goal to name a few. Blaise was recognized as Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week on September 23 and again on October 7.

BANKING ON BJARNADOTTIR –

Margret Edda Bjarnadottir may be in her first season with ULM, but is making her mark quickly. With nine assists this season, she is just two away from breaking the season assist record. Her assists are second in the Sun Belt, ranking 10th nationally. She averages 0.53 assists per game, placing her second in the conference and 18th in the NCAA.

LAST TIME OUT –

LAFAYETTE, La. – The ULM soccer team completed an unbeaten Sun Belt slate by capturing a 2-1 victory over the Ragin' Cajuns. The win secures an outright regular season title for the Warhawks, their first in program history.

The Ragin' Cajuns took early possession of the ball in the first half, finding six shots before the Warhawks could get their first. Goalkeeper Jen Handy was able to notch a few saves early to prevent a score from the home team. But once ULM got going, they began to grab control and turn the tides. Libby Holmes captured the first shot on target, off a Warhawk corner kick. Another set piece for ULM set up a header from Skylar Blaise, assisted by Ally Richardson. The Warhawk defense was able to prevent the equalizer as the clock ran out in the first half to hold onto a 1-0 lead at halftime.

A handball called on the Warhawks in the 56th minute set up a penalty kick for the Cajuns, who slotted it in for the 1-1 equalizer. In the 78th minute, Ava Goodman launched a ball to lift over the goalkeeper's head and right into the top center for the lead and eventual game winner. While both teams pushed for an extra goal, time expired with the Warhawks on top, 2-1.
