MANHATTAN, Kan. – The ULM men's basketball team (3-10) will wrap up nonconference play by traveling to face Kansas State (8-4) in Manhattan on Sunday (Dec. 28). Tipoff against the Wildcats is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
FIRST TIME MEETING –
The Warhawks will take on the Wildcats for the first time in program history, one of four new opponents in the 2025 nonconference season. ULM has already taken on Northern Illinois, Mississippi Valley State and Arkansas Baptist for the first time, going 2-1 against new opponents thus far.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS –
The Wildcats sit at 8-4 across the season, claiming notable nonconference wins over Cal, Tulsa, Mississippi State and Creighton. Kansas State opens Big 12 play at home in the new year, after facing the Warhawks. Junior
P.J. Haggertyleads the team with a 22.8 scoring average, ranking third in the NCAA and second in the conference. Haggerty claimed Big 12 weekly honors after picking up 31 points and 10 rebounds against Tulsa.
Nate Johnson leads the defense with 5.2 boards per game, also collecting a team-leading 27 steals. K-State was selected eighth in the preseason conference media poll, only Haggerty named to a handful of preseason watchlists.
TRIPLE THE FUN –
On December 17 against South Alabama, ULM hit 19 three-pointers, 12 coming in the first half. The 19 triples is a team-high across all Sun Belt teams this season,
Krystian Lewis claiming the Sun Belt high with eight triples on Wednesday.
FROM THE CHARITY STRIPE –
The Warhawks have attempted double-digit free throws in 12 of their 13 contests, attempting a whopping 41 free throws against Arkansas Baptist on December 9, making 31. Against the Ragin' Cajuns on December 20, ULM hit 26 free throws.
Krystian Lewis led the charge, hitting 15 of his 18 free throws. Lewis leads the Sun Belt and is ranked 30th nationally with 71 free throws made.
Lavell Brodnex also contributed against the Buffaloes, hitting a perfect 8-8 from the line.
LEADING THE TEAM –
MJ Russell leads the pack in scoring, averaging 17.1 points, placing him fifth in the Sun Belt. He also leads the team in blocks (1.2) and minutes (36:14).
Krystian Lewis averages three assists and 1.7 steals to lead the team.
Lavell Brodnexhas collected 98 rebounds across 10 games, averaging 9.8 to lead the Warhawks and rank second in the conference. Brodnex leads the conference in offensive rebounds (3.6) and is second in defensive rebounds (6.2).
