MONROE, La. – The ULM women's basketball team (9-13, 5-6) hits the road for Mobile, facing the South Alabama Jaguars (4-18, 0-11). Tip-off in the Mitchell Center is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday (Feb. 8). Both teams are looking to bounce back from Sun Belt losses.
SERIES HISTORY –
The Warhawks and the Jaguars will be competing for the 36th time in the series, ULM looking to continue a three-game win streak and claim a season sweep against South Alabama. The first matchup between ULM and South Alabama was on Dec. 19, 1992 in Mobile, Ala., a 74-61 Warhawk win. The Warhawks swept the series last season for the first time since 2015. The most recent matchup for the two teams was Jan. 30, 2025, when the Jaguars fell to ULM 78-70 in Monroe. The Warhawks are undefeated against South Alabama in the Bilderback era.
SCOUTING THE JAGUARS –
The Jaguars are looking to capture a win, after going on an 11-game losing streak. Rachel Leggett leads the team in points per game (11.7), also leading in field goal percentage (.549) and steals (1.5). Amyria Walker also averages in double-digits (11.2), leading the team in three-pointers made (28). To round out double-digit scorers, Daniela Gonzalezaverages 10.2 points per game. Gonzalez leads the team in rebounds per game (6.6), assists per game (2.0) and blocks per game (1.0).
LEADING THE TEAM –
Jakayla Johnson currently leads the team in points per game (15.5), three-point percentage (.360), assists (72) and steals (39). Johnson leads the Sun Belt in free throw percentage (.835), is second in points per game and seventh in field goal percentage (.419). The senior guard has posted two 28-point games in a week, the first coming against South Alabama (Jan. 30).
Sakyia White opened the season going 9-9 vs. Central Baptist (Nov. 4), dropping 18 points and now leads the team in field goal percentage (.497). She then followed up with a 16-rebound performance vs. Tulane (Dec. 21) and a 14-rebound showing versus Arkansas State (Jan. 11), leading the team in rebounds per game (7.7) and sixth in the Sun Belt. White also led the team with 13 points versus Texas State (Feb. 1), her third game this season leading the team in scoring.
RAINING TRIPLES –
In conference play, the Warhawks are second in the Sun Belt in three-point field goal percentage (.367), behind only App State. The team combined for 10 three-pointers against App State (Feb. 5) for the second time this season, last versus Central Baptist (Nov. 4). Meloney Thames dropped 22 points against Georgia Southern (Jan. 2), shooting five three-pointers, a team-high this season. Just two days later, Nya Valentine hit five shots beyond the arc against Old Dominion, three coming in the final 30 seconds of the game. Valentine went on to go 3-3 from beyond the arc versus Texas State (Feb. 1).
