JONESBORO, Ark. – 55% shooting from the floor set up Arkansas State (16-10, 7-6 Sun Belt) to capture a win over the ULM Warhawks (4-22, 1-12 Sun Belt) in Jonesboro on Wednesday night. Despite a 32-point effort from
Krystian Lewis, ULM dropped the contest, 103-70.
Lewis is the first Warhawk to break 30 points since 2023, shooting 10-of-18 from the field to reach a career-high 32 points. The sophomore also notched four rebounds and two steals.
Lavell Brodnex crossed 20 points for the eighth game this season, leading the defense with seven rebounds.
While the Red Wolves opened with a 4-0 score, three-pointers from Lewis and Brodnex allowed for the Warhawks to stay within a possession. The ULM defense was able to prevent a score by forcing multiple turnovers and blocking shots, returning the favor with a dunk from
MJ Russell with 15 minutes on the clock. Arkansas State was able to recover from ULM's defensive effort, scoring five unanswered points and forcing two turnovers for the 20-12 score.
Lewis tied the game with a three-pointer after Brodnex and
Przemek Hartman drove a 7-0 scoring run at the halfway point of the half. The home team responded with a scoring run of their own, even as ULM continued to battle back. Shooting 47% from beyond the arc, the Warhawks were able to chip away at the advantage the Red Wolves tried to build off. Strong shooting from the field in the final minutes had Arkansas State making six of eight to reach the double-digit lead, settling the 49-37 score at the half.
A three-point play for Lewis kept the Warhawks in fighting position, but a quick scoring run for the Red Wolves extended the disparity. Arkansas State closed out the half shooting 54% as ULM was unable to hold on, shooting 34.6% from the field.
Dylan Diaz and Russell added to the tally in the fight, Lewis dropping seven triples to try to chip away. After stringing together multiple scoring runs, the home team broke 100 points, claiming the 103-70 victory.
The Warhawks will remain on the road for the weekend, traveling to face Texas State on Saturday (Feb. 14). Tipoff in San Marcos is scheduled for 2 p.m.
