NEW ORLEANS – Junior
Stafon Roach was named the Sun Belt Men's Field Athlete of the Week, while graduate student
Raquel Gomes received Sun Belt Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors Wednesday morning. Both accolades were voted on by the conference's coaches and communications directors.
Â
Roach, in his 2026 outdoor debut, posted a distance of 15.82m in the triple jump, earning him first place in the event at the Texas A&M 44 Farms Team Invitational last weekend. His mark is good for first in the Sun Belt, second in the region, second in the NCAA East division and eighth in the NCAA.
Â
Gomes recorded a personal best in the discus throw with a result of 52.68m, which secured second place in College Station. The distance ranks as the top mark in the Sun Belt and seventh in the region
Â
The triple jumper collects his second Sun Belt Men's Field Athlete of the Week award in the 2026 season, having won it once in the indoor season. For the discus thrower, it's the first time a Warhawk has won the women's field honor since the 2024 outdoor season, when Claudine Raud-Gumiel took the honors.
Â
Roach and Gomes will compete with the Warhawks this weekend at the Wake Forest Invitational and Jim Mize Relays.
