MONROE, La. — Cory Churchman, assistant coach of North Texas men's golf, has been named the newest head coach for the ULM Warhawks, as announced by Director of Athletics
SJ Tuohy on May 8.
"Coach Weant is a great person to be around and we are appreciative of all he did as the leader of our program," said Tuohy. "We wish he and his wife the best as they move into their next chapter. As has been my goal since starting at ULM, we want to bring coaches and staff that are fired up to be on the bayou and will embrace this community; Cory checks that box in every way. He's young in his coaching career due to his time playing professionally, but he's already demonstrated his ability to develop talent on the course and make impacts off the course. I'm excited to see him continue that at ULM."
Churchman spent four seasons as the assistant coach at North Texas. In his four seasons on staff, Churchman has overseen six all-conference players and a trio of top five team finishes at the conference tournament.
"I want to thank President Castille and
SJ Tuohy for the opportunity to be the next head coach for ULM Men's Golf," said Churchman. "My family and I could not be more excited to join the Monroe community and be a part of Warhawk nation. It's a very exciting time for ULM Athletics. I will always cherish my time with UNT golf because it shaped me into the player, man and coach that I am today and for that I will forever be grateful. With that said, I am excited to see the new levels this program can reach and cannot wait to get started in Monroe!"
Churchman, a native of Abilene, Texas, played his college golf at UNT, before graduating in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in finance. He was a team captain as a junior and played in all but one event for the Mean Green.
While at UNT, he was selected All-Conference USA Second Team in 2016 and 2017 and was named to the conference all-tournament team in 2015 and 2017, when he was the individual runner-up at the conference championship. He helped lead the Mean Green to a team conference championship in 2015 and was a NCAA Regional qualifier in 2015 and 2017, when he earned at-large individual bids.
Following his standout collegiate career, Churchman finished second at first stage of Korn Ferry Tour Qualifying School, shooting 26-under par and he made it through the first stage of Q-school three straight years (2017-19). In 2018, he played professionally on the Mackenzie Tour, and in 2019 he finished second on the APT money list while winning Bravado Wireless Real Okie Championship. He was the runner-up at the 2020 Texas State Open and had four other runner-up finishes. In 2021, he Monday-qualified for the Chitimacha Louisiana Open on the Korn Ferry Tour.
He and his wife, Maddie, have two daughters, Sophie and Noa and two sons, Fisher and Truett.
