Jackson State currently holds a 0-3 record in the opening of the 2026 season, falling to Mercer, Abilene Christian and McNeese. The Tigers have remained on a tour of Louisiana, with three matches in the state since August 15. Jackson State also captured its conference regular season title in 2025, pegged to finish first in the SWAC yet again in the conference preseason poll. Goalkeeper Taylor Osborn was named Preseason SWAC Goalkeeper of the Year, as four other Tigers earned preseason recognition.Â
HOME SWEET HOME –Â
After a 6-1 victory in Monroe to open home play, the Warhawks improve to an 11-game unbeaten streak at home, dating back to October 31, 2024. Throughout the streak, ULM has outscored its opponents 31-9, logging five shutouts.
SERIES VS. JACKSON STATE –Â
This is the fourth meeting between ULM and Jackson State, the first in Monroe since 2022. The first meeting between the Warhawks and the Tigers was 2004, a 6-0 win for ULM. The Warhawks most recently claimed victory in 2023 in a 2-1 showing at Jackson State. ULM has never fallen to the Tigers, with a 3-0 series record between the teams.
LAST TIME OUT –
18 combined fouls and eight yellow cards between both teams brought up an aggressive road match as the Warhawks dropped to North Texas, 1-0. Early shots from both teams opened the match, as both offenses got off to a hot start. After multiple fouls from both teams continued to halt progress, the fight's first half came to a close with a 0-0 draw.
As the second half began, back-to-back yellow cards came for ULM, as North Texas held in strong offensive position. After another foul handed the Mean Green a free kick, Payton Annis broke free toward the goal. After passing to Claire Niedermeier, UNT scored the lone goal of the contest and its first of the season in the 60th minute. As the clock expired, the home team survived with the 1-0 advantage.
FIRST-YEAR FIRE –
Victoria Vinals opened the season with a goal in the 80th minute at Little Rock. Vinals is the first first-year player to open the season's scoring since 2018. Charli Harris then followed with a brace against Alcorn, making her the first first-year since 2022 to record a multi-goal game, the lone first-year in the Sun Belt Conference with multiple goals in the opening week of competition.
INTERNATIONAL FLAIR –
ULM is one of few teams in which a majority of their team is from outside of the United States. The Warhawks have 17 players from nine different countries, excluding the U.S. The leading countries are England and Spain with five players apiece. Other noted countries include: France, Finland, Hungary, Norway, Portgual, Scotland and The Faroe Islands. Midfielder Bernadett Stefan takes the cake being the farthest from home, as Monroe is 5,456 miles from Budapest, Hungary. On the other side of things, freshman Rylee Methvin is soccer team's lone Louisiana resident, as she is from Thibodaux, just 254 miles from ULM's campus.
LOOKING AHEAD –
The Warhawks will remain local as they hit the road for another Thursday match, traveling to take on Grambling State. ULM will take on the Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on August 27 in Grambling.
