MONROE, La. – The ULM soccer team (3-7-1, 0-2 SBC) is back in action at Brown Stadium, searching for a Sun Belt win as conference play continues. The Warhawks will host the Arkansas State Red Wolves (2-4-2, 0-2 SBC) at 1 p.m. CT.

SCOUTING THE RED WOLVES – 

Arkansas State posts a 2-4-2 record, going 0-2 in the opening week of Sun Belt play. The Red Wolves defeated Stephen F. Austin and Southern Indiana in nonconference play, before recently falling to Georgia Southern and Southern Miss in back-to-back shutouts. Elleigh Newcomb leads the team with six points (3g), as Taylor Sweat is the lone goalkeeper to see time for ASU. The Red Wolves were predicted to finish 12th in the Sun Belt Preseason Poll.

SERIES HISTORY VS. ARKANSAS STATE –

This marks the 25th meeting between the Red Wolves and the Warhawks, the teams with a history that dates back to 2001. Since 2007, the teams have played as Sun Belt opponents, Arkansas State holding the edge with a 15-7-2 record. When playing in Monroe, the Red Wolves hold a 7-4 record. But the Warhawks have been undefeated against ASU since 2021, on a current two-shutout win streak that includes a 2-0 victory at home in 2024.

BACK AT THE HOUSE –

The Warhawks return home, looking to improve on a 3-2 home record in 2026. ULM has outscored opponents 14-5 when they play in Monroe this season, recording their lone shutout of the season at home against Stephen F. Austin.

LAST TIME OUT –

The ULM Warhawks dropped the team's first road conference match to James Madison in a 1-0 contest. The Dukes forged ahead with an aggressive offense, putting up 14 shots to ULM's three.

The first half of the contest opened slow, neither team finding a shot for the opening five minutes. The Dukes continued to claim opportunities, with four corner kicks in just the first half. While Jen Handy protected the goal with save after save, one got past as Ginny Lackey found the back of the net in the 19th minute. 

James Madison continued to search to extend the edge, the home team leading six shots to ULM's two through 45 minutes. First-year Victoria Vinals led the Warhawks on the offense, with both first-half shots belonging to her as JMU remained ahead at the half, 1-0.

Lackey refused to let up in the second half, getting in an early shot on target. But Handy remained strong in goal, recording seven saves throughout the contest to keep the margins slim. While ULM pushed for shots, the home team defense blocked shot opportunities to keep the Warhawks at bay. ULM's Ines de Lope Casanova recorded an off-target shot in the second half to attempt to spark something, but the Warhawks came up short in the 1-0 score.

#1 IN GOAL –

Jen Handy returns for a third season in goal for the Warhawks after earning the starting role in her first. Named to the All-Sun Belt Second Team in 2025, Handy currently holds multiple ULM records, including shutouts in a season (7, 2024). In her career, her 1.34 goals-against average ranks second all-time, as well as her wins (22) and shutouts (13). Handy ranks second in the Sun Belt in goalie minutes played (961:35), ranking second with 51 saves to rank her 20th nationally.

LOOKING AHEAD –

The Warhawks will remain local in their next match, taking on Louisiana Tech in the first conference matchup between the two schools since the Bulldogs joined the conference. The first competition of the Radiance Technologies I-20 Showdown is slated for 1 p.m. in Ruston on October 4.
