MONROE, La. – The first-ever Co-Warhawk of the Week came on the men's side as Tylor Ongwae from men's basketball and Calum Hill from men's golf each earned the award, while Ines Fendt from women's golf took the honors on the women's side.
Ongwae turned in a monster week, averaging 26.5 points over two games at the College Basketball Invitational (CBI). He got it started with 26 points, a season-high at the time, against Eastern Michigan in a 71-69 win. Ongwae drained a pair of three-pointers late to put the Warhawks on top with under a minute left.
The Eldoret, Kenya native followed it up on Monday with 27 points at Mercer which matched a career-high. Ongwae tallied ULM's last three field goals of the game to help erase a 20-point deficit in the second half for a 71-69 comeback win.
The senior, who was named to the All-Conference First-Team, registered his seventh and eighth 20-plus scoring games on the season. He's reached double-figures in scoring 23 times this year and 47 times in his career.
Ongwae and the Warhawks will take the floor again tonight on White Out Wednesday as they host Vermont in the CenturyLink CBI Semifinals at 7:00 p.m. at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
Hill led the men's golf program to its first team title of the season at the Wallace Jones Invitational earlier this week.
Catapulted by an incredible 31 (-5) in the final nine holes, Hill clinched the first individual championship of his young career beating Victor Lange from La Tech, the 51st ranked golfer in the nation.
The sophomore from Edinburgh, Scotland tied a career-low score of 66 (-6) in the final round, closing out the tournament shooting 11 strokes under par.
ULM looks to defend its First Tee Classic title next week when the team travels to Little Rock, Ark. on Monday.
Fendt continued to play the best golf of her career, taking home another top-five finish and leading the Warhawks to their best finish on the spring season with a third-place showing at the Samford Women's Intercollegiate.
The St. Poelten, Austria native was ULM's top finisher in all three rounds of the tournament. In the first two rounds, Fendt carded a 7-over to sit tied for sixth heading into the final round. The senior carded a 4-over par in the final round to move into the top five.
Fendt finished 12-over par (76-75-77) to secure a tie for fifth. The finish marked her six top-10 finish on the season and her third top five performance on the year.
ULM will return to the links on Sunday, March 29-31 as they compete in the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate hosted by conference opponent Georgia State in Stockbridge, Ga.
It marked Ongwae's 10th career Warhawk of the Week award, and Hill and Fendt each picked up their third.
