Warhawks Outlast Southern

Monroe, La. - ULM scored in each of its last four trips to the plate and Warhawk pitching limited Southern to just one hit after a five-run outburst in the fourth inning, as the Warhawks topped the Jaguars 10-6 Tuesday evening at Warhawk Field.

The Warhawks (7-9) claimed control early in the game. Andrew Beesley hit an RBI double to score Masen Prososki and Brendan Jordan's sacrifice fly brought home Trent Tingelstad for a 2-0 lead after an inning.

Southern (9-7) answered with a solo home run from Johnny Johnson in the third inning to cut the deficit to 2-1. ULM responded with a three-run bottom half of the inning, with a two-RBI single from Tingelstad and an RBI triple by Braedon Barrett to push the lead to 5-1.

The fourth inning belonged to Southern. Tyler LaPorte hit an RBI double, scoring Courtland Simoneaux to cut the gap to 5-2. Ashanti Wheatley followed with a three-run homer to left to tie the game at 5 and chase ULM starter Cole Martin from the game. Bobby Johnson added an RBI single later in the inning to give the Jaguars a 6-5 lead.

However, the Warhawk pitching staff shut down the Jaguars over the final five innings. Ty Barnes (1-0) retired the final six Jaguars he faced, while Kolten Childress picked up the save, throwing the final three innings while allowing only a bunt single to LaPorte while striking out six batters.

The Warhawks tied the game in the fifth on Jordan's RBI single, scoring Tingelstad. ULM then took the lead in the sixth inning on Ryan Humeniuk's RBI double, plating Carson Klepzig. In the seventh, Blake Buckman's pinch-hit RBI single with two outs brought home Beesley for the 8-6 lead. Beesley capped the scoring in the eighth inning with a two-out two-run home run to right field to push the lead to 10-6.

The top of the Warhawk order did the bulk of the damage. Beesley had a double and home run with three RBIs, while Tingelstad had two hits and two RBIs. Prososki tallied three hits while Humeniuk had two hits and an RBI.

The Warhawks wrap up their seven-game home stand when they open Sun Belt Conference play this weekend against nationally-ranked Coastal Carolina.
