ULM Drops Third-Straight Game Against UTA, 10-6

MONROE, La. – The UT Arlington softball team wrapped up a three-game series at ULM with a 10-6 victory over the Warhawks on Saturday, April 3.

ULM (10-17, 4-4 Sun Belt) finished the game with nine hits, receiving two each from the trio of Jayden Mount (2-3, double), Madelyn Fletcher (2-4, run) and Jessica Williams (2-3, 2 RBI, run). Adrianna Chavarria (1-6) was the pitcher of record after tossing three innings, allowing six hits, five runs (one earned run) and recording one strikeout.

The Mavericks (11-20, 4-5 Sun Belt) were led at the plate by Jadyn Erickson, who finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a triple. She was one of five players with multiple hits in the game, while Madison Miller, Emily Evans, Kenedy Hines and Jessica Carreon had two hits apiece.

Establishing a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning, UTA capitalized on a single down the right-field line by Evans that scored Miller and Aileen Garcia.

ULM got three of those runs back in the bottom of the second when Fletcher led off the frame with a single to right field. Kennedy Johnson connected on a single that moved Fletcher to second and Kelsey Giddens reached on a fielder's choice that moved the runners up one base each. Two batters later, Williams delivered a single to right, scoring Johnson and Fletcher to cut the lead to 4-2. The third run scored when Korie Kreps reached on a throwing error that allowed Giddens to come home from third base.

A pair of three-run innings in the fourth and fifth innings allowed the Mavericks to assume a 10-3 lead.

ULM tallied three runs in the bottom of the seventh to account for the four-run difference. Williams drove a single into right and moved to second on a bunt single by Alysia Anderson. Williams scored when Kreps dropped a double into left field, accounting for the fourth ULM run of the game. Mount kept the inning alive with a double to right-center field, scoring Kreps and Anderson, as the Warhawks trimmed the deficit to four. The scoring threat ended on a pop out to first base.

The Warhawks will return to action on Tuesday, April 6 when they travel to Grambling State for a non-conference doubleheader.
