MONROE, La. – The ULM tennis team will continue their fall schedule by traveling to Auburn, Ala. for the ITA Southern Regional Championships. Starting on Thursday, the events will continue until Tuesday. Auburn is one of 13 host universities for the ITA Regional Championships.
The tournament will open on Thursday with qualifying singles. Vanja Cado will be taking on Gagana Mohan Kumar of Southern Miss, Raquel Alvaro will compete against Louisiana Tech's Zoie Epps and Tingyi Li will compete against host school Auburn's Julie Bedard at 9 a.m. Lucia Jorrin Fernandez will also be taking on a Southern Miss Golden Eagle in Jordan Parker at 10 a.m. Camila Molina Barranco will compete against Ansley Cheshire of the Alabama Crimson Tide at 10:30 a.m. To round out singles play on Thursday, Mariia Iordanova will take on Mississippi State's Emma Cohen at 11 a.m.
Doubles play will begin on Friday, followed by the first round of the singles main draw. Live streaming will be available for the tournament at auburntigers.com.
At the Lady Demon Invitational in September, Iordanova opened her collegiate career undefeated in singles play. Molina Barranco also had a great showing, making it to the championship round in singles play before placing second. Duos Cado/Molina and Li/Alvaro each claimed their first doubles wins of the fall season as well.
Coming up, ULM will face two conference opponents to finish out the fall season, first Texas State at the Bobcat Invitational on Oct. 26-27 and the Ragin' Cajuns at the Ragin' Cajun Invitational on Nov. 1-2.
