Softball Preview: Louisiana Tech Classic

The Warhawks are on the hunt for wins over No. 13 Arkansas and host Louisiana Tech.

MONROE, La. – The ULM softball team (1-4) is back in action on the road, taking on Louisiana Tech (2-3) and Arkansas (5-0) in the Louisiana Tech Classic in Ruston, La. ULM will face the Bulldogs at 4 p.m. on Thursday (Feb. 13) and Saturday (Feb. 15) and the Razorbacks at 4 p.m. on Friday (Feb. 14) and at 1 p.m. on Sunday (Feb. 16). Both games against host Louisiana Tech will be available to stream on ESPN+ and all games will have live stats available at ULMWarhawks.com.

SERIES HISTORY VS. ARKANSAS–

The Warhawks will take on the Razorbacks for the 15th and 16th meetings this weekend, hoping to beat the Cardinals for the first time since 2007. ULM holds a 3-11 record against Arkansas, the series dating back to 2001. The last meeting came in 2017, where the Warhawks fell to the Razorbacks, 9-3, in Fayetteville. The first meeting between the two teams came on Feb. 18, 2001, with ULM claiming the 6-2 win in Monroe. 

SCOUTING THE RAZORBACKS –

The Razorbacks are on a hot streak to open the season, undefeated after the first weekend of play. Arkansas claimed a whopping 23-0 win over Lipscomb in five innings, also defeated fellow Sun Belt opponent Texas State 3-1. The Razorbacks most recently posted a 2-1 walk-off win over San Diego to improve to 5-0. Senior first baseman Bri Ellis is currently batting .500 with six hits, nine RBIs, three home runs and five runs scored. A preseason All-SEC pick, Ellis currently holds the record for career home runs (51) among all active DI players.

SERIES HISTORY VS. LOUISIANA TECH –

The Warhawks will take on Louisiana Tech for the 117th and 118th meetings this weekend, looking to beat the Bulldogs in Ruston for the first time since 2023. The first meeting for the two teams was in 1980, a 17-0 win for the Warhawks. In 2024, the Bulldogs swept ULM in Monroe, 2-5 and 4-10. Louisiana Tech has not hosted ULM since 2023, where the Warhawks captured a 3-1 win in extra innings. 

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS –

Louisiana Tech is coming out of the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge, where they opened the season with a 2-3 record. Most notably, the Bulldogs took down No. 4 Oklahoma State in a 6-1 win, before falling to No. 12 Florida State. Head coach Josh Taylor, named 2024 CUSA Coach of the Year, looks to take his team to new heights with four returning All-CUSA performers in Alexis GilioAllie FloydClaire Raley and Mattison Buster.  Raley currently leads the team with a .533 batting average, eight hits and six runs scored. 

LAST TIME OUT –

Last weekend, the Warhawks went 1-4 on their trip to Texas, falling in a doubleheader at Lamar and in two high-scoring games at Houston. Maryssa Zenzen led the squad with three home runs, eight RBI and a .944 slugging percentage on the weekend, two of the home runs coming in the final game against Houston. Brooklin Lippert led the team with a .500 batting average, nine hits and four stolen bases. In the doubleheader against Lamar, the Warhawks fell in 0-3 and 2-3 losses before traveling to take on Houston Christian. ULM claimed their first win of the season against Houston Christian in a rally-back 6-5 win. Both games against Houston reached double figures for both teams, with the Warhawks falling 10-13 and 11-15 to the Cougars.

LOOKING AHEAD –

The softball team will open the 2025 season at home on Tuesday (Feb. 18), hosting Jackson State in the Warhawks' home opener. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. for the midweek matchup.
