Softball Preview: Northwestern State

The Warhawks look to find a win on the road in their first midweek matchup road trip.

NATCHITOCHES, La. – The ULM softball team (8-7) hits the road this week for their first midweek game on the road. The Warhawks will face the Northwestern State Demons on Wednesday (Feb. 26), with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. The game will be available to stream on ESPN+ and live stats will be available on our website at ULMWarhawks.com.

SERIES HISTORY VS. NORTHWESTERN STATE –

The Warhawks will take on the Demons for the 126th meeting this week, hoping to defeat Northwestern State in Natchitoches for the first time since 2017. ULM holds a 61-63-1 all-time record against the Demons, the series dating back to 1980, the ULM Softball program's initial season. The last meeting came in 2024, where the Warhawks defeated the Demons, 11-3 in five innings in Monroe.

SCOUTING THE DEMONS –

Northwestern State has opened the season 1-13, their lone win coming to Memphis in the Northwestern State Classic. Northwestern State defeated the Tigers 4-3 in a 10-inning thriller, a wild pitch sealing the deal for the home team. The Demons will be returning home after a trip to Arlington, competing in the UTA Maverick Invitational last weekend. Northwestern State looks to surpass expectations under new head coach Jenny Fuller, as the team was selected to finish ninth in the Southland Preseason Poll, after a 19-31 season in 2024.

LAST TIME OUT –

The ULM softball team went on a 6-0 streak last week, remaining undefeated at home through a midweek game and five games in the Warhawk Invitational. Meagan Brown hit .588 for the week, leading the team in batting average, slugging percentage (.882), runs (7) and hits (10). Freshman Hollie Thomas also had a great week, tallying nine RBIs and four doubles, leading the team with 18 trips to the plate. Maryssa Zenzen tallied her fourth homer of the season against SFA, with Layla Thompson hitting one against Houston Christian and Morgan Brown also posting one against the Lumberjacks. Both Dakota Lake and Victoria Abrams claimed perfect games shutout wins, Abrams against HCU and Lake against Eastern Illinois. Lake also picked up a complete game against SFA this week.
