Softball Preview: Grambling State

The Warhawks are looking to build off a win streak over the Tigers that dates back to 2006.

GRAMBLING, La. – The ULM softball team (18-10) is hitting the road, traveling down the road to take on Grambling State (5-13) on Tuesday (March 11). First pitch against the Tigers is scheduled for 3 p.m. Live stats can be found at ulmwarhawks.com. The Warhawks are looking to build off a three-game win streak, while the Tigers are looking to bounce back from two losses to open play at home.

SERIES HISTORY VS. GRAMBLING – 

The Warhawks will take on the Tigers for the 38th meeting, looking to continue a win streak that dates back to 2006. ULM holds a 33-3-1 record against the Tigers, the series dating back to 1984, where the Warhawks won 3-0 in Monroe. The last meeting came in 2024, where ULM defeated Grambling State in Monroe, 5-1. The last time the Warhawks traveled to Grambling was 2022, when ULM won 11-4.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS –

Grambling State has opened the season 5-13, most recently falling to Prairie View A&M in a doubleheader in their home opener, 0-4 and 3-8 at the GSU Softball Complex. The Tigers have claimed wins over Mississippi Valley State, UMES, Fort Valley State and Tuskegee University. Grambling State outfielder Kamryn Broussard was named to the SWAC Preseason Second Team, currently leading the team in runs (15), home runs (1) and RBIs (12). The Tigers were predicted to finish fourth in the SWAC West after a 17-30 campaign in 2024.

LAST TIME OUT –

The ULM softball team went 3-2 on the weekend in the North Alabama Tournament, falling to host UNA and splitting the series 1-1 against Samford. The Warhawks run-ruled Detroit Mercy two times, claiming 13-0 and 9-1 wins over the Titans. ULM also defeated the Bulldogs 9-8. Catcher Kelsey Kovar went 3-3 on the weekend, hitting a double and a home run. Jacelyn BuckMaryssa Zenzen and Reece Briggs also posted home runs, Buck recording two doubles against Detroit Mercy as well. Morgan Brown hit two homers over the weekend, also hitting a double and a triple, collecting six RBIs. Victoria Abrams claimed a 2-0 record throughout the tournament, striking out seven batters. Maddie Nichols went 1-1, credited with a save and an ERA of 1.91.

NATIONAL RECOGNITION –

Softball America has released their March Position Power Rankings, revealing Morgan Brown to be ranked ninth nationally at second baseman. Brown has a .391 batting average, posting six doubles, a triple and four home runs. The Katy, Texas native has 27 RBIs under her belt, having stolen five bases.

LOOKING AHEAD –

The softball team will return home for the first Sun Belt series of the season, taking on Georgia State this weekend starting on Friday (March 14). First pitch at the ULM Softball Complex is scheduled for 5 p.m. against the Panthers.
