ULM holds a 29-118 record against Lafayette, the first meeting coming in 1980, ULM's inaugural season, when the Warhawks claimed victory, 9-3. The Cajuns are currently on an 11-game win streak against ULM, the last win for the Warhawks coming in 2021 in Lafayette.  In two of the last three games against the Cajuns, ULM has come within one run, keeping it a close contest.

SCOUTING THE CAJUNS –

The Ragin' Cajuns are currently 14-13 on the season, most recently looking to bounce back from a 4-5 loss at McNeese. The Cajuns have played seven ranked opponents so far this season, going 1-6 against them. They most notably defeated No. 21 Alabama in Tuscaloosa, 4-3. To open conference play, the Cajuns went 1-2 at Marshall, falling 5-6 in the first game and 4-12 in the third, but defeating the Herd 7-1 in game two. The Cajuns were predicted to finish second in the Sun Belt after winning the regular season in 2024. Sam RoweCecilia Vasquez and Maddie Hayden were each named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt team. Vasquez leads the team in home runs and RBIs, with Hayden leading in runs scored and stolen bases.

LAST TIME OUT –

ULM fell in a midweek game to Southeastern Louisiana, 2-5, in Hammond, La. While the Warhawks fought to stay with the Lions, a four-run third inning gave SLU the lead. The Warhawks picked up some hits early on, with Morgan Brown knocking back a double and Hollie Thomas hitting an RBI single to pick up the 1-0 lead in the first. Southeastern went on to tie it up in the first, with a single and a wild pitch setting up Maria Detillier to hit an RBI sacrifice fly.

While the Warhawks picked up two more hits in the third, they were unable to score another run. An RBI single for the Lions gave them the lead, with an RBI double following closely behind to score two more runs. Another two-RBI double made the tally five for Southeastern Louisiana, giving them the four-run gap after three innings. Meagan Brown led off the fifth with a triple, Maryssa Zenzen following with an RBI double to cut the deficit to three. In the seventh, ULM fought to find scores to keep it close. Three outs caught up to the Warhawks, however, the Lions defeating ULM, 5-2.

Thomas led the team with a career-high three hits, also picking up an RBI across four at-bats. Morgan Brown also had a multi-hit game, making this her third-straight, logging a double. Zenzen is credited with the other RBI, hitting a double to score the first run. Maddie Nichols was credited with the loss, pitching two innings and allowing two hits, two runs and a walk, striking out a batter. Dakota Lake saw three innings in the circle, striking out two batters and allowing three hits, no runs and a walk.

BACK-TO-BACK BOMBS –

On March 16 against Georgia State, twin sisters Meagan Brown and Morgan Brown hit back-to-back home runs to center field to extend the Warhawk lead. This is the second time this season that the sisters have done so, first occurring at Northwestern State (Feb. 26). Five other teams in the NCAA have had multiple back-to-back homers this season, but none have been achieved by sisters.

WALK IT OFF –

The Warhawks have claimed three walk-off wins so far this season, the first two occurring in the Best on the Bayou Tournament held at the ULM Softball Complex. Carys Platt is credited with the walk-off single in both wins, against SEMO (March 1) and Memphis (March 2). Most recently, ULM snagged a walk-off win over Georgia State (March 15), with Meagan Brown hitting an RBI double to take the lead for the win.
