MONROE, La. – The ULM softball team (33-16, 13-5) hits the road for the Warhawks' final road series of the regular season, taking on the South Alabama Jaguars (17-28, 6-11 Sun Belt). All games will be available to stream on ESPN+ and live stats will be available at ULMWarhawks.com.
SERIES HISTORY VS. SOUTH ALABAMA –
The Warhawks will take on the Jaguars for the 57th, 58th and 59th meetings, looking to defeat South Alabama for the first time since 2019. ULM holds a 9-47 all-time record against the Jaguars, the series dating back to 2007, when South Alabama won 8-5 in Monroe. The Warhawks have been unable to defeat the Jaguars in Mobile since 2018, a 13-1 victory. The last meeting came on May 9, 2024, when the Warhawks went to 12 innings with the Jaguars in the Sun Belt Tournament, falling 1-2. In the previous two meetings with South Alabama, ULM has gone to extra innings, going to 12 and 13 innings in 2024.
SCOUTING THE JAGUARS –
The Jaguars currently post a 17-28 record, most recently falling 0-1 to Auburn in the midweek in Mobile, a solo home run in extra innings securing victory for the Tigers. In conference play, the Jaguars sit 6-11, swept by the Ragin' Cajuns in Lafayette last weekend. Most notably, South Alabama clinched the series over Marshall and swept James Madison early in Sun Belt play. The Jaguars played multiple Power 4 schools as well, in Alabama, LSU, Minnesota, Ole Miss, Notre Dame and Arizona, South Alabama defeating Notre Dame twice. Senior Gabby Stagner leads the team in batting average, home runs and RBIs, claiming Sun Belt Player of the Week on March 18, scoring a run against Alabama and picking up six RBIs over the week.
SUN BELT HONORS –
For the first time since joining the Sun Belt in 2006, ULM Softball swept the weekly awards on April 22, as Hollie Thomas won Player of the Week and Victoria Abrams won Pitcher of the Week. Thomas becomes the first freshman to receive the honor and Abrams becomes the first Warhawk pitcher since 2014 to win the honor. The freshman catcher posted a .600 batting average, along with two doubles and four RBIs. The senior pitcher recorded a 0.00 ERA across 13 innings, claiming a complete game shutout over the weekend.
NATIONAL RECOGNITION –
In Week 11, D1Softball named ULM to be No. 18 in the Mid-Major Rankings with a 33-16 record so far this season. The Warhawks have not been ranked in the Mid-Major Top 25 before this season, but sat at No. 24 in Week 8.
WALK IT OFF –
The Warhawks have claimed six walk-off wins so far this season, the first two occurring by Carys Platt, who had the walk-off single in both wins, against SEMO (March 1) and Memphis (March 2). ULM then snagged a walk-off win over Georgia State (March 15), with Meagan Brown hitting an RBI double for the win. In the weekend series against Troy, Elle Carter hit the walk-off single for the series win (March 29) and Platt walked off the win for the third time, clinching the series sweep (March 30). Hollie Thomas joined the walk-off club on April 19, walking off the win against Georgia Southern by hitting an RBI single for the 2-1 win and the series sweep.
REWRITING THE RECORD BOOKS –
In the 2025 season alone, ULM has put eight entries in the single-season Top 5 records lists, including the most runs in a single season (311), hits (435), RBIs (267) and total bases (631). 71 doubles on the season ranks second, with 35 home runs sitting at fifth.
LOOKING AHEAD –
The ULM softball team will return home for the final series of the regular season. The Warhawks will host Texas State at the ULM Softball Complex starting on Thursday (May 1) at 6 p.m., then on Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m.
