TROY, Ala. – The ULM men's basketball team (4-26, 1-16 Sun Belt) ends the 2026 regular season with a road game in Troy, Alabama, taking on the Trojans with tip-off scheduled for 6 p.m.
SERIES HISTORY –
The Warhawks and Trojans face off for the 31st time in series history with the latter holding a 19-11 all-time lead. Troy has won the past eight contests against ULM, winning a tight 77-76 game in Monroe earlier this season. It also holds an 11-6 record at home in the series. The Warhawks last defeated Troy in 2020 with a 74-71 win.
SCOUTING THE TROJANS –
Troy holds a 19-11 overall record with an 11-6 mark in Sun Belt play. It comes into the matchup winners with a 78-59 victory over the Ragin' Cajuns in the last timeout. It currently stands at a four-way tie for first place in the conference standings with South Alabama, App State and Marshall. The Trojans are led in scoring by Victor Valdes with 15.0 points per game. Thomas Dowd (14.3), Theo Seng (12.9) and Cooper Campbell (12.8) also average double digit scoring figures on the season. Dowd also averages 10.1 rebounds per game and has recorded 16 double-doubles, which leads the conference.
LEADING THE TEAM –
Four Warhawks average over 10 points per game, with Krystian Lewis leading the pack at 18.4 ppg. He held a streak of five 20+-point games from January 30 through February 11,collecting 32 points at Arkansas State, and most recently totaled a career-high 33 points vs. Arkansas State. He also leads the team in assists (3.3) and steals (1.5). MJ Russell (15.3), Lavell Brodnex (14.4) and Renars Sondors (10.8) also post double-digit scoring averages this season.
BRODNEX BOARDS –
Lavell Brodnex has been leading the charge in rebounding since his debut for ULM on November 13, averaging 8.2 boards per game. With his double-digit scoring average, Brodnex has posted nine double-doubles so far this season, which is second in the Sun Belt. The forward reached a career-high 18 rebounds against Arkansas Baptist, the second-most recorded by a Sun Belt player this season.
COLLECTING MINUTES –
MJ Russell and Krystian Lewis, ULM's scoring leaders, also lead the Sun Belt with the most playing time per game. Lewis averages 36 minutes per game to rank third in the league and 26th in the NCAA. Russell is closely behind at 35.6 minutes, placing him fifth in the conference and 39th in the NCAA.
FROM THE CHARITY STRIPE –
The Warhawks have attempted double-digit free throws in 28 of their 30 contests, attempting a whopping 41 free throws against Arkansas Baptist on December 9, making 31. The 41 attempted free throws is the second-most attempted by a Sun Belt team this season. Against the Ragin' Cajuns on December 20, ULM hit 26 free throws. Krystian Lewis led the charge, hitting 15 of his 18 free throws. Lewis leads the Sun Belt and is ranked eighth nationally with 176 free throws made.
1K FOR BRODNEX –
Lavell Brodnex is the most recent of ULM men's basketball players to cross the 1,000-point threshold, achieving the milestone against Texas State in a 23-point showing. The Saginaw, Mich., native drilled a three with 43 seconds remaining in the first half to reach the milestone. The forward arrives this season in Monroe after a season at Wagner College, posting eight points and two seasons at Cameron University where he tallied 800 points. Brodnex's tally in Monroe sits at 346, crossing 200 points against the Ragin' Cajuns.
TRIPLE THE FUN –
On December 17 against South Alabama, ULM hit 19 three-pointers, 12 coming in the first half. The 19 triples is a team-high across all Sun Belt teams this season, Krystian Lewis claiming the Sun Belt high with eight triples.
DOUBLE OVERTIME –
The Warhawks went to double overtime in Fant-Ewing Coliseum on December 17 against South Alabama, falling in a close game across 50 minutes. This is the 14th instance of double overtime in the program's history, the team holding a 6-8 record when playing double overtime games. The last 2OT game in Monroe was 2014 against the Ragin' Cajuns.
INTERNATIONAL FLAIR –
The Warhawks have 15 players from six different countries, including the U.S. Noted countries include: Nigeria, Poland, Spain, Russia and Latvia. Ayomide Bamisile takes the cake being the farthest from home, as Monroe is 6,301 miles from Lagos, Nigeria. On the other side of things, junior Krystian Lewis is the basketball team's lone hometown resident, as he is from Monroe.
