Baseball Preview: Louisiana Tech

The Warhawks cap off a four-game road trip in Ruston.

MONROE, La. - The ULM baseball team (16-13) concludes its four-game road trip in Ruston, La. with a midweek matchup against Louisiana Tech. First pitch at J.C. Love Field and Pat Patterson Park is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 31.

SERIES HISTORY VS. LOUISIANA TECH –
Friday's game marks the 193rd all-time meeting between the two schools, as the Bulldogs control the all-time series at 112-80. Louisiana Tech won the season series in 2025, taking two out of three games against the Warhawks with the most recent result being a 7-4 win in Ruston. ULM's last victory came in an 8-3 result in Monroe.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS –
Louisiana Tech currently holds a 15-14 overall record with a 4-5 mark in Conference USA play. The conference record is good for ninth out of 12 teams in the CUSA standings. The team is currently on a six-game losing streak, most recently suffering a sweep against Jacksonville State. Leading the team in hitting is former Warhawk Colby Lunsford. The ULM transfer leads in batting average (.324), runs scored (30), stolen bases (5) and doubles (10). Along with Lunsford, Trey Hawsey also leads the Bulldogs in home runs with nine total on the year.

LAST TIME OUT –
The Warhawks traveled to Lafayette last weekend and won the series over the Ragin' Cajuns, taking two out of three games. The team trailed 3-1 in game one Friday night before a four-run sixth inning, capped by a three-run Davis Mauzy home run, propelled ULM to a 5-3 win. In game two, Bryce Blaser, Danye Wray and Jake Haggard hit a combined three home runs to help the team in a series clinching 7-3 win on Saturday. The Warhawks, going for the sweep, were shut out in game three, losing 0-4 on Sunday. It's the second straight series win over the Ragin' Cajuns spanning back to last season, and it's the first series win in Lafayette since the 2012 season.

HOT BATS –
The Warhawks host a pair of hitters who have made their mark in the first season at ULM. Mauzy has produced a hit in 28 of 29 games to start the season, having multi-hit games in ten of them. He also recorded a home run last weekend, a three-run blast in game one against the Ragin' Cajuns. Mauzy is batting .383, has a 1.009 OPS and has 44 total hits. Wray has also been a hot bat for ULM in 2026, recording a hit in all but five games played. His eight home runs lead the team as he possesses a .702 slugging percentage, which ranks him third in the conference. Wray is also batting .333 and is second in RBI with 25 on the year. Haggard leads the team in RBI with 40 in 2026 and is also third in hitting with an average of .347. His 11 doubles lead the team as well.

FRESHMEN FOR THE FENCES –
ULM freshmen have been able to record home runs and swing for the fences across the opening 29 games. Freshman Sutton Lewis hit two three-run homers throughout opening weekend against Central Arkansas, becoming the only freshman with multiple home runs in opening weekend in the Sun Belt. Wray then followed that up with three home runs in the series against Western Illinois, launching one in each of the three games. He also collected two bombs in the Sun Belt opening series vs. Texas State. The freshman from Smithville, Miss. leads the team in homers with eight on the season. Garrett Wiethorn also joined in on the action, collecting two homers in game three against UT Arlington, his first two of the 2026 season.

NOT A BAD START –
The team's sweep over Texas State produced some historical marks for the team through the first three games. It's the first sweep over a Sun Belt opponent since the 2024 season and the first sweep over the Bobcats since 2001. The Warhawks have also started 3-0 in conference play for the first time since the 2007 season, where they started 4-0 in Sun Belt play.

LOOKING AHEAD –
The Warhawks host their second conference series of the season, playing three games against Georgia State from Thursday, Apr. 2 through Saturday, Apr. 4.
