NEW ORLEANS – ULM senior utility
Carys Platt, who hit .889 (8-of-9), scored five runs, drove in two runs and stole two bases while helping ULM to a road series win, has been named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week, as selected by the league's head coaches and communications directors.
Platt recorded three-consecutive multi-hit games last weekend against App State, going 3-for-3 in Game 1 and Game 2 of the series, going 2-for-3 in the series finale on Sunday. She went 2-of-3 in stolen bases, stealing a base in Game 1 and Game 3 in Boone. A triple hit on Friday allowed her to score two runs of the four tallied by the Warhawks. Platt went on to score two more runs in the commanding 13-2 run-rule victory on Saturday, tallying three hits, to tie her career high, and two RBIs. Another stolen base and two hits were tacked on by Platt in the series finale, also scoring the winning run in the 3-2 contest.
"There is nobody more deserving than
Carys Platt," said head coach
Molly Fichtner. "She has a tireless work ethic and constantly makes those around her better. Her competitiveness and will to win is contagious. I couldn't be happier for her to get the recognition she deserves from the Sun Belt conference."
The Grant-Valkaria, Fla. native sits at first in the Sun Belt in batting average, fourth in hits, fifth in runs and stolen bases in conference play. The senior has also assisted in ULM's first-place rankings in batting average, hits, RBI and stolen bases in the Sun Belt this season.
ULM (30-16, 10-5 Sun Belt) will face Georgia Southern (27-16, 11-4 Sun Belt) in a weekend series, looking to continue the team's 19-0 home record. First pitch on Thursday (April 17) is scheduled for 6 p.m., with a 6 p.m. start on Friday and a noon start on Saturday.
