NEW ORLEANS – ULM sophomore starting pitcher
Daniel Gonzalez was voted Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week after throwing eight shutout innings in his start versus South Alabama last week, the conference office announced on Monday (May 19).
Â
In the Warhawks' 4-0 win on Thursday night versus South Alabama, Gonzalez was the first ULM pitcher to throw eight or more scoreless innings in a start since 2019 and sat down seven Jaguars on strikeouts and held South Alabama to just two hits. In his final two starts of the season, the Murrieta, California, native wrapped up the season allowing three runs in 14.0 innings pitched.
Â
Gonzalez is the first ULM pitcher to be named SBC Pitcher of the Week since
Trey Lindsay won the recognition on March 16, 2021, following three relief appearances versus Ole Miss and Louisiana Tech and allowed just one of six inherited runners to score.
Â
Gonzalez finished his sophomore season with a 4-2 record and tossed 56.0 innings pitched and 42 strikeouts, posting a 5.14 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP.
