MONROE, La. – The ULM baseball team is returning to Lou St. Amant Field for a seven-game homestand, beginning with two midweek games against Grambling State (3-4) on February 24 at 4 p.m. and Alcorn State (1-6) on February 25 at 1 p.m. The Warhawks are looking to bounce back from a 1-2 weekend at the Maestri Classic in New Orleans.
SERIES HISTORY VS. GRAMBLING STATE –
The Warhawks will be facing the Tigers for the 75th time in program history, playing for the fourth-straight year in Monroe, in a series dating back to 1971. ULM is also on a three-game victory streak in the series, carrying the team to a 58-16 series record. The previous two meetings ended in run-rule, seven-inning victories for the Warhawks. Last season, ULM cruised to a 17-2 victory on February 18.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS –
Grambling State holds a 3-4 record so far this season, defeating Alcorn State and Alabama A&M to go 2-1 at the HBCU Power Series and going 1-2 with a win over Jackson State in the Andre Dawson Classic. Former Warhawk Hasani Johnson leads the Tigers in runs (8) and stolen bases (3), with Julio VasQuez hitting two homers this season and driving in seven runs. Grambling State was projected fourth in the SWAC Preseason Poll, with three Tigers named to the Preseason All-SWAC team. The Tigers lead the SWAC with 64 hits, seven home runs and three triples.
SERIES HISTORY VS. ALCORN STATE –
The Warhawks will host the Braves in the 10th meeting between the teams, as ULM holds an undefeated 9-0 series record. The previous two meetings were seven-inning victories for the Warhawks, the 2025 team picking up an 11-1 win on March 11. In the most recent meeting, ULM broke the single-game stolen base record with 14 bases in one game.
SCOUTING THE BRAVES –
Alcorn State has opened the season 1-6, finding its lone win against Jackson State, an 8-7, 10-inning win. Most recently, the Braves fell in a 3-0 sweep to HCU on the road. Kanious Davis leads the team with a .350 batting average, four runs scored and two stolen bases so far this season. Keaten Hawk also leads with six RBI. The Braves are predicted to finish 11th in the SWAC Preseason Poll.
LAST TIME OUT –
ULM Baseball went 1-2 on the weekend at the Maestri Classic in New Orleans, dropping to Northern Kentucky and Alabama A&M, but defeating host New Orleans. Marcus Aranda hit a three-run homer in the first game of the weekend to set up the lead, but a three-run inning for the Norse tied it up. Three more runs brought the Norse ahead in the final innings, securing the 6-4 victory. Hot bats in the second game brought the Bulldogs ahead 10-1 through five innings of play. Two doubles and two singles in the eighth from ULM brought a six-run inning to keep it tight, but Alabama A&M prevailed, 11-7. In the final game of the weekend, New Orleans scored early from a solo home run, but late hitting had ULM finding the win, 9-1. Davis Mauzy had an RBI triple, while Micah Dean had two RBI singles in the win. JC Dermody got the win with seven strikeouts in six innings, Holden Hess collecting the save with five Ks in three innings.
JC BRINGS THE JUICE –
JC Dermody had a stellar start at New Orleans on February 22, collecting his second win to have a 2-0 record this season. He saw action in six innings on the mound, striking out seven and allowing just one run and no walks. Dermody arrives in Monroe after a season at Wichita State. Dermody sits at sixth in the Sun Belt with 14 strikeouts, joining seven other pitchers in the league who have two wins so far this season.
HOMETOWN HEROES –
The 2026 ULM baseball roster features eight players who played high school baseball inside Ouachita Parish. The roster includes three players from Sterlington High School in freshman infielder Travis Adams, redshirt senior pitcher Seaver Sheets and redshirt senior pitcher Adam Tubbs; one player from Ouachita Christian in sophomore catcher Zach White; one player from West Monroe High School in freshman right-handed pitcher Tyler Roark; and three players from Neville High School in freshman right-handed pitcher Samuel Marsh, junior catcher Drew Jarrell and freshman infielder Sutton Lewis.
LOOKING AHEAD –
The ULM baseball team will remain at The Lou for the weekend, hosting Western Illinois for a three-game weekend series. The Warhawks will face the Leathernecks at 1 p.m. on Friday (Feb. 27) and Sunday (March 1), then at 4 p.m. on Saturday (Feb. 28).
