SERIES HISTORY VS. ALABAMA –Â
The Warhawks will take on the Tide for the fourth time in program history, the second time in head coach (and Alabama alum) Molly Fichtner's ULM career. Alabama has swept the series so far, 3-0, with two defeats in 2016 at the Easton Crimson Classic and one in 2019, a 5-1 victory. The Warhawks have played all three meetings with Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
SCOUTING THE CRIMSON TIDE –
Alabama records a 26-1 record so far this season, the lone loss coming this past weekend to Arkansas. In SEC play, the Crimson Tide has swept Ole Miss also claiming the series win over the Razorbacks. The Crimson Tide is tied for fifth in the conference with a 5-1 record, the team leading the SEC in sacrifice bunts (18), sitting in the top three in 11 different statistical categories. Pitcher Jocelyn Briski leads the NCAA in strikeout-to-walk ratio (15.67), Vic Moten also adding to the pitching room with four shutouts under her belt. Sophomore Brooke Wells leads the team in batting average (.493) with 10 home runs to boot, named SEC Player of the Week on March 10.
ULM vs. P4 –
The Warhawks face their third Power 4 opponent this week at Alabama, previously taking on Texas Tech and Ole Miss. The last time ULM captured a win over a P4 opponent was the ACC's Syracuse, defeating the Orange in 2024, 4-1, in Monroe. The last defeat of an SEC opponent was 2015, a 9-1, five-inning victory over Ole Miss in Oxford.
LAST TIME OUT –
The Warhawks opened Sun Belt play with a 1-2 record at Texas State, defeating the Bobcats for the first time in San Marcos since 2016 with a 6-3 score on Saturday. Friday's conference opener went nine scoreless innings, Texas State finding the lone run of the contest in the 10th inning to walk it off. A five-inning victory on Sunday clinched the series for the Bobcats, claiming the 10-2 win. Brooklin Lippert led the team with five RBIs on the weekend, Meagan Brown notching a double and Hollie Thomas hitting her fifth home run of the season for extra-base hits. Three strikeouts came from Ashanti McDade as she pitched a whopping 11.1 innings across the weekend.
Ks ALL DAY –
Three ULM pitchers have picked up career highs in strikeouts this season, two breaking double digits in Ks. First, it was senior Maddie Nichols striking out 11 batters in five innings of action, allowing one earned run and two walks. Then, left-handed pitcher Skylar Waggoner followed that up with 13 Ks in a complete game one-hitter shutout, the most struck out by a pitcher in the Sun Belt this season and one away from the single-game record. Dakota Lake then posted a complete game shutout of her own against Grambling State, striking out a career-high nine batters in the 2-0 victory.
THREE IN ONE –
In the sixth inning against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on February 21, three home runs were hit in a single inning. Maryssa Zenzen hit an in-the-park homer, before Morgan Brown and Dally Engle followed it up with solo homers. The Warhawks remain as one of three mid-major programs to hit three or more home runs in a single inning.
TWICE AS NICE –
Twins Meagan Brown and Morgan Brown boast similar numbers and continue to find success on the field together. Both sisters collected three hits and three RBIs when batting back-to-back against Grambling (March 4). They are one of 15 sets of twins playing on the same NCAA softball team. Last season, the girls hit back-to-back home runs on two separate occasions. Both sisters were also named to the All-Sun Belt First Team and Preseason All-Sun Belt team.
SITTING AT 28 –
D1Softball revealed its Preseason D100 Mid-Major Player Rankings for 2026, naming ULM's Morgan Brown as the 28th-ranked player in the mid-majors. Last season, Brown boasted a .382 batting average including 16 doubles, four triples and 13 home runs. The Katy, Texas, native also recorded 62 RBIs, which led the Sun Belt.Â
LOOKING AHEAD –
The Warhawks look to host their first Sun Belt opponent in South Alabama at the ULM Softball Complex. Beginning on March 20, ULM will face the Jaguars at 6 p.m. on Friday, 2 p.m. on Saturday and Noon on Sunday.
