MONROE, La. – The ULM softball team (22-17, 6-3 SBC) remains at the ULM Softball Complex to conclude an eight-game homestand. The Warhawks will host Alcorn State (11-21, 0-10 SWAC) in a midweek game on Tuesday at 4 p.m. Streaming for the game will be on ESPN+ and live stats will be available on ULMWarhawks.com/Stats.
SERIES HISTORY VS. ALCORN STATE –Â
The Warhawks will face the Braves for the 19th time in program history, holding a strong 16-2 record that dates back to 2006. ULM currently sits at a six-game win streak, all of those six coming in Monroe. When playing at home, the Warhawks are 11-1 against the Braves, the lone loss coming in 2014. The last time the two teams faced off was 2024, a doubleheader in which ULM came out on top in both games, 12-2 and 9-1, both ending in five innings.
SCOUTING THE BRAVES –
The Braves have posted an 11-21 record so far this season, claiming wins over Bowie State, Mississippi Valley State and Xavier (LA) . Most recently Alcorn State dropped in a three-game series to Southern on the road, where the team launched a team-best three home runs. Ka'Miya Dillon remains perfect defensively with no errors this season, also named as one of the toughest to strike out with just three strikeouts in 62 at-bats. Yahnya Acevedo leads the team in batting average (.341), RBIs (18) and stolen bases (14). Pitcher Chiara Olson has claimed seven wins for the Braves this season, carrying a 6.73 ERA and 22 strikeouts.Â
LAST TIME OUT –
Most recently, the Warhawks recorded their first Sun Belt sweep of the season, claiming victory three times against local foe Ragin' Cajuns. All three games were determined by three runs or less, as ULM held the lead in the opening 4-1 victory, returned from a tied game to win 5-4 to clinch the series and scored five runs in the first inning in the first three-game sweep of the Cajuns in program history. Carson Jansky hit .571 on the weekend, claiming a home run in the series finale and two RBIs. Kelsey Kovar also launched her first homer of the season in the series. Olivia Faggard recorded 34 putouts with three assists at first base. Ashanti McDade notably allowed just one earned run across the series, striking out four batters in 12.1 innings to record two wins and a save.
WARHAWK HOMESTAND –Â
ULM remains in Monroe to continue an eight-game homestand, last seeing that many consecutive games in 2024, when the Warhawks also hosted eight-straight games. The longest homestand for the Warhawks was a 12-game stretch, occurring four times in program history: 2007, 1998, 1992 and 1985.
MID-MAJOR RANKINGS –
D1Softball and Softball America released their Mid-Major Rankings on March 30, a sweep of the Cajuns placing ULM on both lists for the first time this season. D1Softball had the Warhawks at No. 22, while Softball America placed them at No. 21 after the Sun Belt sweep.
FAGGARD AT FIRST BASE –
Olivia Faggard took the reins midseason at first base, making her first start at the position on March 8 against Chattanooga. Since then, the redshirt freshman has recorded 123 putouts, seven assists and just one error, placing her fielding percentage at .992. Faggard has also assisted in turning six of the team's double plays. Her 15 putouts on March 27 is the second-most recorded in single-game program history for the Warhawks. Most notably, Faggard had not previously played first base before stepping up on March 8.
TWICE AS NICE –
Twins Meagan Brown and Morgan Brown boast similar numbers and continue to find success on the field together. Both sisters collected three hits and three RBIs when batting back-to-back against Grambling (March 4), hitting a collective .441 when hitting consecutively in the lineup. They are one of 15 sets of twins playing on the same NCAA softball team. Last season, the girls hit back-to-back home runs on two separate occasions. Both sisters were also named to the All-Sun Belt First Team and Preseason All-Sun Belt team.
LOOKING AHEAD –
After eight games at home, it's time for the Warhawks to get back on the road, the team traveling to Statesboro to face Georgia Southern in a Sun Belt series. The first game will be Thursday at 5 p.m. CT, then playing Friday at 4 p.m. CT and again on Saturday at 11 a.m. to conclude.
