Softball Preview: Milisa Moore/Shane Lamb Tournament

The Warhawks look to expand off a strong 12-4 victory over Grambling State in competition against Central Arkansas and Chattanooga.

CONWAY, Ark. – The ULM softball team (14-9) will be hitting the road to compete in the final nonconference tournament of the season, the Milisa Moore/Shane Lamb Tournament, hosted by Central Arkansas. The Warhawks will take on the Bears on Friday (March 6) at 4 p.m. and again Saturday at 4:30 p.m. ULM will also take on Chattanooga, on Friday at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Streaming for the games against UCA will be on ESPN+ and live stats for all games will be available on ULMWarhawks.com.

SERIES HISTORY VS. CENTRAL ARKANSAS –

The Warhawks will take on the Bears for the 13th and 14th times in the teams history, returning to Conway for the first time since 2020. UCA holds the 4-2 advantage when hosting ULM, also holding 7-5 edge overall. But the Warhawks hold the one-game win streak, last defeating Central Arkansas on the road, 8-5, in a tournament hosted by the Bears.

SCOUTING THE BEARS –

The Bears are sitting at 13-8 on the season, with notable wins over Creighton, UNI, Louisiana Tech, Stephen F. Austin and Tulsa. Most recently, UCA defeated Tulsa at home with a tight score of 3-2. Addie Graham leads the Bears in batting average (3.94) and runs (21), named ASUN Player of the Week on March 2 after hitting 9-of-16 across five games. UCA was selected to finish third in the ASUN Preseason Coaches' Poll, Graham named the ASUN Preseason Player of the Year and 2025's ASUN Freshman of the Year. The Bears lead the conference with 18 double plays (2nd, NCAA), 36 doubles and a .972 fielding percentage.

SERIES HISTORY VS. CHATTANOOGA –

This is the second and third times ULM has faced Chattanooga, only seeing the Mocs one time previously, in 2004. The Warhawks defeated Chattanooga by a score of 4-3 in Birmingham in the lone meeting, the teams only ever meeting in neutral territory so far.

SCOUTING THE MOCS –

The Mocs post a 10-11-1 record this season, collecting wins over Troy, Middle Tennessee and Cornell, the lone tie coming in an 8-8 contest against UI-Chicago, concluding the game due to scheduling. Mia Leone leads the team with three homers on the season, driving in 17 runs. Pitcher Taylor Long posts an ERA of 5.96 across 56.1 innings, selected to the All-Southern Conference Preseason team, as UTC was selected to finish second in the conference.

LAST TIME OUT –

The Warhawks picked up their fourth run-rule victory on Wednesday against Grambling State, returning from a 2-0 deficit in the first inning to complete a 12-4 victory. After the Tigers scored two in the top of the first, a double from Meagan Brown, a single from Morgan Brown and an in-the-park home run from Maryssa Zenzen had the Warhawks ahead by two after the first. A triple from Meagan was followed by a double from Morgan to add three more to the tally, even as Grambling tacked on two of their own in the third. Kelsey Kovar then scored a run from a single, stealing home herself for the ninth run. Morgan Brown scored another run off a single as Kennan Nunamaker was responsible for the final run, a single concluding the fifth. Skylar Waggoner struck out six in four innings as she picked up the win.

MO GOES YARD –

Two home runs in a game for Morgan Brown sets the standard again, reaching the milestone for the second time in her career. On February 28 against Jacksonville State, Brown claimed her second homer of the season in the second inning, then claiming another in the sixth. Brown becomes one of few Sun Belt players to have a multi-home run game under her belt.

THREE IN ONE –

In the sixth inning against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on February 21, three home runs were hit in a single inning. Maryssa Zenzen hit an in-the-park homer, before Morgan Brown and Dally Engle followed it up with solo homers. The Warhawks remain as one of three mid-major programs to hit three or more home runs in a single inning.

TWICE AS NICE –

Twins Meagan Brown and Morgan Brown boast similar numbers and continue to find success on the field together. Both sisters most recently collected three hits and three RBIs when batting back-to-back against Grambling (March 4). They are one of 10 sets of twins playing on the same NCAA softball team. Last season, the girls hit back-to-back home runs on two separate occasions. Both sisters were also named to the All-Sun Belt First Team and Preseason All-Sun Belt team.

HOMETOWN HEROES –

The Warhawks also have three hometown players on the 2026 roster, with West Monroe's Maddie Nichols, Monroe's Elle Carter and Abagail Creighton on the roster this season. Nichols went to West Monroe High School, where she was a four-year letterwinner before graduating as valedictorian in 2022. Carter hails from Neville High School, a four-year letterwinner in soccer and softball, the eighth member of her family to attend ULM. Creighton, a freshman, rounds out the Monroe natives as she arrives after six seasons at St. Frederick High School.

LOOKING AHEAD –

The ULM softball team returns to the ULM Softball Complex for a midweek game before Sun belt play begins. After facing Central Arkansas two times in Conway, the Warhawks will host the Bears on March 10 at 6 p.m.
