SERIES HISTORY VS. CENTRAL ARKANSAS –Â
The Warhawks will take on the Bears for the 15th time in the teams history, playing in Monroe for the first time since 2019. While ULM holds the slight 3-2 advantage when hosting, Central Arkansas holds the 9-5 edge overall, including two wins this weekend in Conway. The Warhawks have not defeated the Bears in Monroe since 2015.
SCOUTING THE BEARS –
The Bears are sitting at 17-8 on the season, with notable wins over Creighton, UNI, Louisiana Tech, Stephen F. Austin and Tulsa. Most recently, UCA swept the Milisa Moore/Shane Lamb Memorial Tournament, which included two wins over ULM. Renee Christian leads the Bears in batting average (.409) and stolen bases (12), collecting two hits, a run and an RBI against ULM this weekend. UCA was selected to finish third in the ASUN Preseason Coaches' Poll, Addie Graham named the ASUN Preseason Player of the Year and 2025's ASUN Freshman of the Year. The Bears lead the conference with 18 double plays (2nd, NCAA), 36 doubles and a .972 fielding percentage.
LAST TIME OUT –
The Warhawks went 2-2 on the weekend in the Milisa Moore/Shane Lamb Memorial Tournament, defeating Chattanooga two times and falling to host Central Arkansas two times. In 4-2 and 3-0 victories, the Bears were able to capitalize early, as the Warhawks were unable to forge a comeback. On the other hand, two strong victories against the Mocs (7-2, 11-8) allowed for the Warhawks to snag two on the weekend. Morgan Brown led the weekend, batting .500 and slugging .800, posting five runs on five hits, three doubles and three RBI. Two freshmen in Carson Jansky and Dally Engle posted home runs on the weekend as well. Ashanti McDade led the pitchers with a 1.75 ERA across 8.0 innings, striking out six batters. Skylar Waggoner saw 6.2 innings, striking out three and posting an ERA of 1.05 in three appearances.
MO GOES YARD –
Two home runs in a game for Morgan Brown sets the standard again, reaching the milestone for the second time in her career. On February 28 against Jacksonville State, Brown claimed her second homer of the season in the second inning, then claiming another in the sixth. Brown becomes one of few Sun Belt players to have a multi-home run game under her belt.
Ks ALL DAY –
Three ULM pitchers have picked up career highs in strikeouts this season, two breaking double digits in Ks. First, it was senior Maddie Nichols striking out 11 batters in five innings of action, allowing one earned run and two walks. Then, left-handed pitcher Skylar Waggoner followed that up with 13 Ks in a complete game one-hitter shutout, the most struck out by a pitcher in the Sun Belt this season and one away from the single-game record. Dakota Lake then posted a complete game shutout of her own against Grambling State, striking out a career-high nine batters in the 2-0 victory.
THREE IN ONE –
In the sixth inning against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on February 21, three home runs were hit in a single inning. Maryssa Zenzen hit an in-the-park homer, before Morgan Brown and Dally Engle followed it up with solo homers. The Warhawks remain as one of three mid-major programs to hit three or more home runs in a single inning.
TWICE AS NICE –
Twins Meagan Brown and Morgan Brown boast similar numbers and continue to find success on the field together. Both sisters most recently collected three hits and three RBIs when batting back-to-back against Grambling (March 4). They are one of 15 sets of twins playing on the same NCAA softball team. Last season, the girls hit back-to-back home runs on two separate occasions. Both sisters were also named to the All-Sun Belt First Team and Preseason All-Sun Belt team.
LOOKING AHEAD –
Sun Belt play is on the horizon as the Warhawks hit the road to face their first league opponent. First pitch on Friday (March 13) in San Marcos against Texas State is scheduled for 6 p.m.
