STATESBORO, Ga. – The ULM softball team (23-17, 6-3 SBC) hits the road for another Sun Belt series. The Warhawks will face the Georgia Southern Eagles (16-18, 4-5 SBC) beginning on Thursday at 5 p.m. CT, then competing on Friday at 4 p.m. CT and Saturday at 11 a.m. CT. SERIES HISTORY VS. GEORGIA SOUTHERN –Â
The Warhawks will face the Eagles for the 35th, 36th and 37th times in program history, looking to expand a six-game win streak that dates back to 2024 with two-straight sweeps in Monroe. ULM holds the 24-10 advantage, a 9-5 record when playing in Statesboro. The last trip to Statesboro was a series victory, as the Warhawks won the first two games before dropping the final one (6-3, 2-0, 1-3). ULM has won the last five series against the Eagles, a streak dating back to 2021.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES –
Georgia Southern has posted 16-18 record, going 4-5 in Sun Belt play. The Eagles defeated #25 Clemson, Wofford, Eastern Illinois and Rhode Island in nonconference play. In the first three series of league play, Georgia Southern went 1-2 against James Madison, 0-3 against Marshall and claimed a clean sweep over Coastal Carolina. Delanie Thames leads the hitters with 36 RBIs and nine home runs under her belt to slug .747 (6th, Sun Belt). Pitcher Alana Barnard leads pitchers with 35 strikeouts across 73.1 innings, going 5-8 so far this season.Â
LAST TIME OUT –
Most recently, the Warhawks claimed a midweek win over Alcorn State in a 4-1 score. After a scoreless three innings, Cecilia Gonzales and Hollie Thomas each scoring on a passed ball to get to a 2-0 lead in the fourth. A double from the Braves tacked one on, but Elle Carter tripled in the sixth to score the third run, Kennan Nunamaker's sacrifice fly making it a 4-1 score. Maddie Nichols (W, 3-2) struck out seven in her six-inning outing, with no walks. Bristin Bordeau's two strikeouts ended the game as she earned the save in one inning of action.
500 AT THE HOUSE –
The ULM Softball Complex, after opening in 1984, has now seen 500 wins from the Warhawks after the win against Alcorn on March 31. The first win came on March 12, 1984, a 4-1 victory over Central Michigan. With a total 500-430-4 record, ULM is 86-69 at home in the Molly Fichtner era. This season, the Warhawks are 13-3 at home, including five Sun Belt wins.
MID-MAJOR RANKINGS –
D1Softball and Softball America released their Mid-Major Rankings on March 30, a sweep of the Cajuns placing ULM on both lists for the first time this season. D1Softball had the Warhawks at No. 22, while Softball America placed them at No. 21 after the Sun Belt sweep.
FAGGARD AT FIRST BASE –
Olivia Faggard took the reins midseason at first base, making her first start at the position on March 8 against Chattanooga. Since then, the redshirt freshman has recorded 130 putouts, eight assists and just one error, placing her fielding percentage at .993. Faggard has also assisted in turning six of the team's double plays. Her 15 putouts on March 27 is the second-most recorded in single-game program history for the Warhawks. Most notably, Faggard had not previously played first base before stepping up on March 8.
Ks ALL DAY –
Four ULM pitchers have picked up career highs in strikeouts this season, two breaking double digits in Ks. First, senior Maddie Nichols struck out 11 batters in five innings of action. Then, left-handed pitcher Skylar Waggoner followed up with 13 Ks in a complete-game one-hitter shutout. Dakota Lake then posted a complete game shutout of her own against Grambling State, striking out a career-high nine batters in the 2-0 victory. Ashanti McDade is the most recent to break her career high, with five strikeouts in a 2-1 win over South Alabama.
LOOKING AHEAD –
The Warhawks will return home on Wednesday (April 8), taking on a local opponent in the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs at 6 p.m.
