SERIES HISTORY VS. GEORGIA STATE –Â
The Warhawks will be taking on the Panthers for the 38th, 39th and 40th meetings in program history, dating back to 1999. The record falls in favor of ULM, 20-18. On an 11-game win streak over Georgia State, ULM looks to extend the three series sweeps to four. With a slight edge in Atlanta of 8-7, ULM plays on the Panthers' turf for the first time since 2024. The 2024 trip saw a five-inning 10-0 win in game one, followed by a 9-3 win and a 8-3 sweep-clinching score. In the last 10 meetings, ULM has outscored Georgia State 68-23, the Panthers last claiming a series over the Warhawks in 2022 in Atlanta.
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS –
The Panthers have posted a 24-22 record this season, recording a 4-11 conference record with wins over Marshall, App State, Coastal Carolina and South Alabama. With success in the nonconference slate, Georgia State captured wins over Purdue, Yale, Charleston and Western Carolina. Most recently in league play, the Panthers went 1-2 at South Alabama. McKenzie Walker leads the team in batting average (.413), runs (51) and stolen bases (19), the Panthers sitting second in the conference in batting average (.313) and hits (403). Pitcher Makayla Stephens leads the team with a 2.32 ERA, recording 189 strikeouts in 166.0 innings. Â
LAST TIME OUT –
It was another Sun Belt sweep for ULM as the softball team went 3-0 on the weekend against App State. A first-inning two runs held on through seven innings on Friday for the 2-0 victory. After four scoreless innings on Saturday, two more runs were scored in the fifth for a second-straight shutout over App State, 2-0, to clinch the series. The Mountaineers scored the first run on Sunday, but ULM went on to tack on a tying run in the fourth inning. After 10 innings of fight, Morgan Brown hit a double to walk off the win and claim the sweep, 2-1. Hollie Thomas (6-of-10) led the Warhawk offense with six hits (two doubles, one triple). Ashanti McDade (8.0 IP) and Skylar Waggoner (16.0) both held down the fort in the circle, holding the Mountaineers to a batting average of .123 and striking out nine batters.
MID-MAJOR RANKINGS –
D1Softball and Softball America released their Mid-Major Rankings on April 13, the Warhawks remaining in the rankings for the third-straight week. Softball America placed them at No. 13 and D1Softball had the Warhawks at No. 14–the highest-ever listings for ULM.
SUN BELT STREAK –Â
After sweeping App State, the Warhawks have extended their Sun Belt series win streak to four. Only falling in one series, the four-series streak is the longest since ULM has been in the league. The last time the Warhawks won four or more conference series in a row was 2001, when in the Southland Conference.
SHUT 'EM OUT – Â
ULM Softball handed App State its first shutout of the season on April 10 in a 2-0 score. The Warhawks went on to do it a second time, defeating the Mountaineers 2-0 on April 11. The last time the softball team picked up two shutout conference wins in a row was 2002, shutting out Stephen F. Austin (1-0, 4-0). Coincidentally, that series also ended in a 2-1 victory in Monroe for the series sweep. The Warhawks have now recorded six shutouts this season.
GOING THE DISTANCE –
Skylar Waggoner pitched 10.0 innings on April 12 against App State, claiming the 10-inning complete-game victory. She makes her mark in the record books as the ninth ULM pitcher to reach 10 innings or more. The last time a pitcher went the distance in double-digit innings was in 2019.
FAGGARD AT FIRST BASE –
Olivia Faggard took the reins midseason at first base, making her first start at the position on March 8 against Chattanooga. Since then, the redshirt freshman has recorded 201 putouts, 13 assists and three errors, placing her fielding percentage at .986. Faggard has also assisted in turning eight of the team's double plays. Her 16 putouts on April 12 ties the most recorded in single-game program history for the Warhawks, last occurring in 2008. Most notably, Faggard had not previously played first base before stepping up on March 8.
LOOKING AHEAD –
The Warhawks will remain on the road for the final road series of the regular season. ULM will take on Troy beginning on April 24. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 6 p.m.
