TROY, Ala. – The ULM softball team (32-18, 14-4 SBC) hits the road for Alabama, taking on Troy (30-17, 8-10 Sun Belt). The Warhawks will face the Trojans first on Friday at 6 p.m. CT, then competing on Saturday at 3:33 p.m. CT and Sunday at noon CT. SERIES HISTORY VS. TROY –Â
The Warhawks will be taking on the Trojans for the 62nd, 63rd and 64th meetings in program history, dating back to 2002. The record falls in favor of the Trojans with a 38-23 advantage, a strong 21-10 edge when playing at Troy. ULM enters the weekend on a three-game win streak over Troy, after sweeping them (2-1, 6-5, 8-7) in Monroe last season. The last time the Warhawks made the trip to Troy, they went 1-2 against the Trojans, claiming one 4-3 victory in the first game of the series. ULM has not captured a series at Troy since 2017.
SCOUTING THE TROJANS –
The Trojans have recorded a 30-17 record this season, sitting at 8-10 in league play. Troy has claimed series victories over Georgia State and Georgia Southern, as well as nonconference wins over Central Arkansas, Omaha, Georgia Tech and Auburn. Makaley Boswell leads the Trojans in nearly every offensive category, hitting .422 and recording 43 RBIs. Boswell was honored as Sun Belt Player of the Week earlier this season, Kiley Huffman also receiving the honor this season. Troy leads the conference in batting average (.331), doubles (78) and stolen bases (94). In the circle, Abby Lovell leads the Trojans with a 2.36 ERA, striking out 97 batters in 101 innings of work.
LAST TIME OUT –
It was third Sun Belt sweep for ULM as the softball team went 3-0 on the weekend at Georgia State. A strong offensive showing of 11 hits allowed for the 7-0 shutout on Friday, holding the Panthers to just two hits. Ahead 2-0 through four innings, Georgia State tied the game 2-2 in the fifth on Saturday. But an error allowed for the winning runs to score in the sixth for the series win, 4-2. Another shutout for ULM came on Sunday in a 6-0 victory for the sweep. Meagan Brown (6-of-10) hit her first homer of the season and two doubles while scoring four runs on the weekend. Hollie Thomas also hit a home run on Sunday. Ashanti McDade allowed no runs and struck out 12 batters in a weekend where she earned all three wins and had the Panthers hitting .159. Skylar Waggoner struck out 10 batters in 7.2 innings allowing just two runs.
MID-MAJOR RANKINGS –
D1Softball and Softball America released their Mid-Major Rankings on April 20, the Warhawks remaining in the rankings for the fourth-straight week. Softball America placed them at No. 11 and D1Softball had the Warhawks at No. 13–the highest-ever listings for ULM.
DOUBLE TROUBLE –
With 10 doubles hit this past weekend against Georgia State, the Warhawks are up to 74 doubles on the season. The number ranks second in the Sun Belt and 37th nationally. ULM is now just eight doubles away from breaking the season record for doubles (81), set in 2025. Meagan Brown and Morgan Brown lead the team with 14 doubles apiece, Hollie Thomas close behind with 13.
SUN BELT STREAK –Â
After sweeping Georgia State, the Warhawks have extended their Sun Belt series win streak to five. Only falling in one series, the five-series streak is the longest since ULM has been in the league. The last time the Warhawks won five or more conference series in a row was 1997, when in the Southland Conference.
SHUT 'EM OUT – Â
ULM Softball handed App State its first shutout of the season on April 10 in a 2-0 score. The Warhawks went on to do it a second time, defeating the Mountaineers 2-0 on April 11. The last time the softball team picked up two shutout conference wins in a row was 2002. ULM went on to shut out Georgia State two times on April 17 and 19, reaching four conference shutouts this season, the most since 2002. The Warhawks have now recorded eight shutouts overall this season.
FAGGARD AT FIRST BASE –
Olivia Faggard took the reins midseason at first base, making her first start at the position on March 8 against Chattanooga, having not previously played the position. Since then, the redshirt freshman has recorded 233 putouts, 13 assists and three errors, placing her fielding percentage at .988. Faggard has also assisted in turning nine of the team's double plays. Her 16 putouts on April 12 ties the most recorded in single-game program history for the Warhawks, last occurring in 2008.Â
Ks ALL DAY –
Four ULM pitchers have picked up career highs in strikeouts this season, two breaking double digits in Ks. First, senior Maddie Nichols struck out 11 batters in five innings of action. Then, left-handed pitcher Skylar Waggoner followed up with 13 Ks in a complete-game one-hitter shutout. Dakota Lake then posted a complete game shutout of her own against Grambling State, striking out a career-high nine batters in the 2-0 victory. Ashanti McDade is the most recent to break her career high, with seven strikeouts in a 7-0 win over Georgia State.
SISTER, SISTER –
Twins Meagan Brown and Morgan Brown boast similar numbers and continue to find success on the field together. Both sisters collected three hits and three RBIs when batting back-to-back against Grambling (March 4), both going three-for-four at Georgia State (April 17). They are one of 15 sets of twins playing on the same NCAA softball team.Â
LOOKING AHEAD –
The Warhawks return to the ULM Softball Complex for the final series of the regular season. ULM will host Southern Miss to conclude the season, beginning on Thursday (April 30) at 6 p.m.
