MONROE, La. – The ULM softball team (26-18, 8-4 SBC) remains at the ULM Softball Complex to host App State (24-13, 4-8 Sun Belt) for the first time since 2022. The Warhawks will face the Mountaineers first on Friday at 6 p.m., then competing on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at noon. SERIES HISTORY VS. APP STATE –Â
The Warhawks will be facing the Mountaineers for the 26th, 27th and 28th occasions in series history, ULM with the slight 13-12 advantage. When playing in Monroe, App State holds the edge, 5-4. Last season, the Warhawks made the trip to Boone, clinching the series in the final two games of the series (4-8, 13-2, 3-2). The last time the teams met in Monroe was 2022, the Mountaineers claiming two of three. The last series win over App State at home for ULM was 2017.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS –
The 'Neers have posted a 24-13 record this season, recording a 4-8 conference record. With success in the nonconference slate, the Mountaineers have captured one Sun Belt series so far, over Georgia State. Most recently in league play, App State was swept at Marshall. The Mountaineers then went on to defeat Gardner-Webb in a five-inning, 20-3 contest on Tuesday night. Makayla McClain leads the team in almost every offensive category, the team as a whole leading the conference in slugging percentage (.582), RBIs (263) and scoring (7.84), amongst others. Pitcher Sophie Moshos leads the team with a 3.25 ERA, claiming three saves and 78 strikeouts in 107.2 innings.
LAST TIME OUT –
ULM went claimed their final midweek victory of the season in a 3-1 score against Louisiana Tech. While the Bulldogs got to a hot start and struck first, a double from Olivia Faggard gave ULM the 2-1 edge after the first inning. While the defense held off the visitors, it was Brooklin Lippert's RBI single to add to the tally. Ashanti McDade ended the game by striking out the final batter with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh. McDade earned the win with two strikeouts, no runs and no walks.Â
MID-MAJOR RANKINGS –
D1Softball and Softball America released their Mid-Major Rankings on April 6, the Warhawks remaining in the rankings for the second-straight week. D1Softball had the Warhawks at No. 17–the highest-ever listing for ULM, while Softball America placed them at No. 21.
500 AT THE HOUSE –
The ULM Softball Complex, after opening in 1984, has now seen 500 wins from the Warhawks after the win against Alcorn on March 31. The first win came on March 12, 1984, a 4-1 victory over Central Michigan. With a total 501-430-4 record, ULM is 87-69 at home in the Molly Fichtner era. This season, the Warhawks are 14-3 at home, including five Sun Belt wins.
FAGGARD AT FIRST BASE –
Olivia Faggard took the reins midseason at first base, making her first start at the position on March 8 against Chattanooga. Since then, the redshirt freshman has recorded 171Â putouts, nine assists and two errors, placing her fielding percentage at .989. Faggard has also assisted in turning eight of the team's double plays. Her 15 putouts on March 27 is the second-most recorded in single-game program history for the Warhawks. Most notably, Faggard had not previously played first base before stepping up on March 8.
TWICE AS NICE –
Twins Meagan Brown and Morgan Brown boast similar numbers and continue to find success on the field together. Both sisters collected three hits and three RBIs when batting back-to-back against Grambling (March 4). They are one of 15 sets of twins playing on the same NCAA softball team.Â
HOMETOWN HEROES –
The Warhawks also have three hometown players on the 2026 roster, with West Monroe's Maddie Nichols, Monroe's Elle Carter and Abagail Creighton on the roster this season. Nichols went to West Monroe HS, where she was a four-year letterwinner before graduating as valedictorian in 2022. Carter hails from Neville HSl, a four-year letterwinner in soccer and softball, the eighth member of her family to attend ULM. Creighton, a freshman, rounds out the Monroe natives as she arrives after six seasons at St. Frederick HS. On April 4, Carter hit a double to extend the lead for the series win over Georgia Southern, driving in a run scored by a fellow hometown favorite Creighton.
