A two-time NAIA All-American, Mann won eight Gulf State Conference titles including three in the 120-yard hurdles, three as a member of the 440-yard relay team, one in the 330-yard hurdles and one in the 440-yard hurdles. He holds the school record in the 330-yard hurdles at 36.6 seconds and set the GSC records in the 120 yard-hurdles at 13.7 seconds and the 440-yard relay of 40.6 seconds. Roger was also on the record setting 480-yard shuttle hurdle relay team. Roger was "high point man" and named co-captain of the team his senior year, along with fellow Hall of Famer Ronnie Fountain. On a bigger stage, he placed second in the NAIA National Championships in the 120-yard hurdles and tied for the fifth fastest time in the world in the 420-yard hurdles at 13.4 seconds. Roger competed in the 1968 Olympic Trials.
