MONROE, La. – Continuing to lead their programs with big performances week-in and week-out, Corey Wesley from the ULM track & field squad and Petra Horakova from the tennis team earned Warhawk Male and Female of the Week, respectively.
Wesley won both a gold and silver medal on Saturday at the Demon Invite in two different jumping events. The junior won first-place in the triple jump with a season-best leap of 14.42m. The Warhawks dominated the event as they swept the podium with sophomore Jemal Parharm Jr. (14.39m) and freshman Lebrun Nelson (14.26m) just behind.
Wesley also earned runner-up in the long jump. The Plano, Texas product landed at a mark of 14.39m.
On the season, Wesley ranks second in the league and 17th in the country in the long jump. He's also top-10 in the conference and 78th in the nation in the triple jump.
It marked Wesley's second career Warhawk of the Week award as he previously won on April 29, 2014.
On the court, Horakova won a dominating 6-0, 6-1 match over Arkansas State's Victoria Pasani as she led the Warhawks to a 6-1 victory in the ULM tennis team's regular season finale on Wednesday. With the win, the junior improved to 17-2 on the season and 4-1 in conference play.
The Trnava, Slovakia native is a perfect 11-0 on court three and 4-2 on court one. She and has won eight of her last 10 matches.
Horakova and doubles partner Sophie Rufyikiri boast an 11-3 record, including being unbeaten in conference play at 4-0. The duo is 7-2 on court one and 4-0 on court two.
Horakova and the Warhawks now have their eyes set on the Sun Belt Conference Championships beginning Thursday in New Orleans, La.
